Telangana Pushes for Green Steel Plant in Bayyaram, Expands Industrial Vision

Delhi, April 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged the Union government to establish a Green Steel Plant in Bayyaram, highlighting its potential to address steel shortages while promoting environmentally sustainable industrial growth. The proposal was put forward during a meeting with Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries H. D. Kumaraswamy in New Delhi.

The Chief Minister, accompanied by Minister of State for Steel Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, presented a series of key industrial proposals aligned with the state’s long-term “Telangana Rising 2047” vision. He emphasized that these initiatives are strategically designed to position Telangana as a major industrial and manufacturing hub in the coming decades.

Among the proposals, Revanth Reddy submitted a representation for establishing a steel recycling industry in the state, utilizing scrap generated from old and decommissioned vehicles. He pointed out that Telangana, particularly Hyderabad, has the technological capabilities, robust infrastructure, and favorable industrial ecosystem required to support such an initiative. The move, he said, would contribute significantly to national production targets while promoting circular economy practices.

Further strengthening the green industrial agenda, the Chief Minister proposed the development of a Green Steel Cluster in Hyderabad based on hydrogen technology. He also suggested setting up ancillary industries to support automobile and defense manufacturing sectors, which are witnessing rapid growth in India. Recognizing the accelerating shift towards electric mobility, he called for the establishment of a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing hub in the state.

In addition, the Chief Minister proposed the creation of a specialized industrial park focused on advanced manufacturing sectors such as machine tools and robotics. He stressed that such initiatives would enhance Telangana’s competitiveness in high-tech industries and attract global investments.

Revanth Reddy reiterated the state’s commitment to making Hyderabad a pollution-free, net-zero city by 2034. In this context, he sought the Centre’s support in fast-tracking the transition to electric mobility and promoting clean energy-based industrial practices.

The Chief Minister also requested the establishment of national-level skill development institutions in Hyderabad to equip the youth with advanced technical expertise required for emerging industries. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Principal Secretary Srinivasa Raju and Special Secretary for Central Projects Coordination Advait Kumar Singh.
