Bulldozer Action Targets Illegal Properties, Says Gujarat Dy CM During Poll Campaign

Ahmedabad/Bhuj, April 2024 : Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Wednesday said that the state government is taking strict action against illegal properties linked to alleged criminals and anti-social elements, describing it as part of a broader effort to maintain law and order under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

Addressing a gathering in Bhuj after a roadshow held as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaign for local self-government elections, Sanghavi said that “the Chief Minister’s bulldozer is operating on illegal encroachments and properties of anti-social elements and criminals.” He added that the government remains committed to ensuring both development and a strong law-and-order framework across the state.

The roadshow, which passed through key areas including Jubilee Circle and Chhathi Bari, witnessed significant public participation, with large crowds lining the route. Sanghavi used the platform to highlight the government’s governance model, emphasising infrastructure development alongside enforcement measures.

He also took aim at previous administrations led by the Indian National Congress, alleging that they failed to deliver basic amenities such as electricity, water, and roads. In contrast, he said, the current BJP government has ensured these facilities while also driving broader economic and urban development.

Sanghavi repeated similar remarks during campaign meetings held in various parts of Ahmedabad, including Dariyapur, Khadia, and Lambha. Referring again to enforcement actions, he remarked that certain political parties appear uncomfortable when strict measures are taken against illegal properties linked to criminal elements.

He asserted that individuals involved in crimes against citizens would not be spared, adding that those responsible for serious offences would face legal consequences and remain behind bars.

While addressing a gathering in Dariyapur, Sanghavi described the locality as “the heart of Ahmedabad,” highlighting its cultural and historical significance, including its traditional architecture, narrow lanes, and temples. He also noted that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel began his public life there after being elected as a municipal councillor in 1917.

In Khadia, he referred to the area as a “sacred and revolutionary centre,” paying tribute to former leader Ashok Bhatt and recalling the region’s political legacy. He also touched upon past law-and-order challenges, stating that events such as the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath had previously faced disruptions including stone-pelting and violence.

During a public meeting in Lambha, Sanghavi outlined several development initiatives undertaken in Lambha and nearby Narol. He said that infrastructure improvements, including drainage systems and water purification projects in Rangoli Nagar, were completed on priority to address issues like monsoon waterlogging.

He further mentioned the development of Lambha lake, road expansion, street lighting projects, and the establishment of urban and community health centres. Facilities for social gatherings, such as party plots, have also been developed, while crematoriums have been upgraded with better seating and water arrangements to ease difficulties for residents.

Sanghavi also criticised opposition to the strengthening of the Disturbed Areas Act, stating that certain political groups were uneasy with stricter provisions.

As campaigning intensifies ahead of local body elections, the Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that the government would continue to focus on development, governance, and strict enforcement to ensure public safety and stability across Gujarat.
