Modi Voices Confidence in BJP Victory, Calls Bengal Polls Crucial for Eastern India’s Future
Kolkata, April 2026 : Narendra Modi on Monday expressed strong confidence in the prospects of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, stating that it is his “destiny” to serve the people of the state at this juncture.
Addressing an election rally at Jagatdal in North 24 Parganas district, the Prime Minister said that ensuring the safety, security, and development of West Bengal’s people is both his responsibility and a commitment he intends to fulfil. He emphasised that the current Assembly elections are not only significant for the state but also hold wider implications for the future of eastern India.
Modi highlighted the strategic importance of eastern India in the country’s growth narrative, referring to the historical regions of Anga (Bihar), Banga (Bengal), and Kalinga (Odisha) as three foundational pillars of national prosperity. According to him, any weakness in one of these regions impacts the overall progress of the country, making West Bengal’s development crucial to India’s broader economic and social advancement.
“This election is not just about forming a government in West Bengal; it is about reshaping the destiny of eastern India,” he said, underlining the need for a stable and development-oriented administration in the state.
The Prime Minister also described the rally as his final campaign appearance in West Bengal for this election cycle. He expressed optimism about the BJP’s performance, citing the enthusiastic response from the public during his campaign tours. Modi said he is confident of returning to the state after the election results to witness the swearing-in ceremony of a new government led by the BJP.
Focusing on economic issues, Modi pointed to unemployment and lack of industrial investment as key challenges facing West Bengal. He noted that the closure or relocation of industries has forced many young people to migrate to other states in search of better livelihood opportunities. To address these concerns, he promised that a BJP government would prioritise industrial growth and job creation.
He further announced plans to establish a major “Make in India” manufacturing hub in and around Kolkata if the BJP comes to power. According to him, such an initiative would attract investments, generate employment, and revitalise the state’s industrial ecosystem. Modi added that coordinated efforts between the Prime Minister and a BJP-led state government would accelerate development and bring tangible benefits to the people.
At the same time, the Prime Minister criticised the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing it of lacking a clear roadmap for the state’s future. He alleged that the party’s leadership is focused on self-interest rather than public welfare and does not possess the vision required for long-term development.
“People across West Bengal are seeking security, opportunities, and honest governance, which the current administration has failed to provide,” he said, urging voters to opt for a change in leadership.
Modi warned that granting another term to the ruling party would hinder progress and deepen existing challenges. Instead, he called on voters to support the BJP in order to usher in a new era of growth, stability, and good governance in West Bengal.
As campaigning intensifies ahead of the elections, the Prime Minister’s remarks reflect the BJP’s broader strategy of positioning the polls as a turning point not just for West Bengal but for the development trajectory of the entire eastern region.
