Storm Damage in Chhipphir Assessed, Relief Distributed: Zonal Officer Submits Report

Hnahthial, April 2026 : Following heavy storms and rainfall yesterday, officials visited Chhipphir village today to assess the damage caused by the disaster. The inspection was carried out by Sub-Divisional Collector (SDC) Pu Lawrence Lalhlanthara and Chhipphir Zonal Officer Pu Lalhruaitluanga, along with other officials. They were accompanied by local volunteers who immediately began relief efforts. A total of 116 tarpaulins were distributed to affected families for temporary shelter.

According to the report submitted by Zonal Officer Pu Lalhruaitluanga, a total of 73 houses were damaged due to the storm. Among these, two houses were completely destroyed (100% damage), while 20 families have been rendered homeless and require immediate shelter assistance.

In addition to residential damage, the storm also caused significant impact on public infrastructure. The Indoor Hall suffered damage to its roof, and three electric poles were knocked down, disrupting power lines in the area. The Community Hall and the store room of the local health centre (Dawmdawiin) also sustained roof damage. Furthermore, several trees fell along the road connecting Chhipphir and Zote ‘S’, obstructing transportation routes.

The report stated that the storm struck between 4:25 pm and 4:40 pm on April 27, 2026. Eyewitnesses, including workers under the VB-G RAM G scheme, described the storm as extremely intense, resembling a powerful gale.

Relief operations were supported by volunteers, with around 70 individuals from Bualpui ‘V’ and 40 from Zote ‘S’ assisting in the efforts. Officials visited all affected locations and initiated immediate relief work on-site to support those impacted.

To aid the affected families, the Zonal Officers distributed 116 tarpaulins and also provided financial assistance of ₹4,000 to volunteers engaged in relief work for essential needs such as food arrangements.

The administration continues to monitor the situation and extend necessary support to restore normalcy in the affected areas.
