Where Roads End, Healthcare Begins: A Ray of Hope in Sukma’s Hills

Raipur, April 2026: In a remarkable example of grassroots healthcare delivery, the Swasthya Bastar Abhiyan has brought much-needed medical services to the remote and inaccessible regions of Sukma district, illuminating hope in areas where even roads fail to reach.

Under this initiative, a dedicated health team ensured timely treatment for patients living in difficult terrains. Guided by Collector Amit Kumar, the Potkapalli health department team undertook a challenging effort to transport a patient from the remote village of Puteparh. The patient was first taken to Kistaram and then referred to the District Hospital in Sukma, covering a total distance of nearly 310 kilometers. This timely intervention played a crucial role in ensuring proper medical care.

Officials said that this success was made possible through continuous screening, effective counselling, prompt referrals, and a strong follow-up mechanism. Coordinated efforts by the Sector Medical Officer and the relentless dedication of healthcare workers significantly strengthened the campaign’s impact. The initiative is being seen as a major step forward in delivering healthcare services to remote and underserved populations.

As part of the campaign, a total of 17 patients from the interior villages of Kistaram and Maraiguda were referred to the district hospital for advanced treatment. In a significant move to reduce financial burden, Ayushman cards were generated and printed on the spot for 14 patients, enabling them to access free medical services under the government scheme.

Among those referred, patients suffering from asthma and swelling in the legs were identified for specialized examination and treatment. Additionally, the campaign also addressed eye care needs. In the Konta region, eye screenings were conducted, and 11 patients were provided with free spectacles. Those diagnosed with cataracts were advised to undergo surgery for better vision and quality of life.

Healthcare workers from the Maraiguda sector and Potkapalli teams played a pivotal role in executing these efforts. Their work demonstrated that even in the most challenging terrains, access to healthcare can be ensured with commitment and proper planning.

The success of the Swasthya Bastar Abhiyan highlights how focused government initiatives can bridge the gap between remote communities and essential healthcare services. For the residents of Sukma’s hilly interiors, it is not just a campaign—it is a lifeline bringing care, dignity, and renewed hope.
