Rajasthan to Redevelop Bus Terminals into Modern Transport Hubs: CM Bhajanlal Sharma

Jaipur, May 2026 : Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Tuesday announced a major initiative to redevelop bus terminals across the state, aiming to transform them into modern transport hubs equipped with world-class facilities. The move is part of the government’s broader vision to strengthen transport infrastructure, improve passenger experience, and accelerate economic growth.

Chairing a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s Office, Sharma directed officials to undertake the redevelopment of bus terminals at selected district headquarters through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The plan focuses on creating state-of-the-art “bus ports” that will serve as key regional transport centers.

The Chief Minister emphasized that enhancing public transport infrastructure is essential to ensure smooth, safe, and convenient travel for citizens. “Our goal is to make Rajasthan a leader in transport infrastructure so that people can travel comfortably and development gains further momentum,” he said.

According to officials, the proposed bus ports will be equipped with modern passenger amenities, improved waiting areas, digital ticketing systems, better sanitation facilities, and organized traffic management. These developments are expected not only to improve commuter convenience but also to generate employment opportunities and boost local economic activity.

Sharma also instructed departments to prepare a comprehensive and sustainable operational plan for the bus ports, ensuring efficient management and long-term maintenance. He stressed the need for proper coordination between the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) and private bus operators to ensure regular and timely services.

The redevelopment project will cover several key cities, including Udaipur, Bikaner, Bharatpur, Alwar, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, Beawar, Ajmer, and Bundi, as part of the state budget announcement. These upgraded terminals are expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity and streamline passenger movement.

Officials highlighted that the modernization of bus terminals will play a crucial role in improving the overall travel experience by offering safer, more organized, and user-friendly facilities. The initiative is also expected to attract private investment and introduce better service standards in public transport.

Senior officials, including Chief Secretary V. Srinivas and Additional Chief Secretary Akhil Arora, attended the meeting and discussed implementation strategies for the project.

With this ambitious plan, the Rajasthan government aims to bring a transformative change in public transportation, ensuring that infrastructure keeps pace with the state’s growing mobility needs.
