Bihar Cabinet Expansion Likely Today as Samrat Choudhary Secures NDA Nod
May 2026 : A major political development is unfolding in Bihar as Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is set to expand his Cabinet on Wednesday, following crucial consultations with leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in New Delhi.
Sources indicate that the party high command has approved the final list of ministers, clearing the way for the long-awaited Cabinet expansion. Choudhary had travelled to the national capital earlier this week, where he held key discussions with senior BJP and NDA leaders to finalise the composition of his team.
During his visit, the Chief Minister met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, among others, to deliberate on the political and administrative priorities of the new government. Following these meetings, he returned to Patna on Monday, signalling that the process had reached its final stage.
Preparations for the swearing-in ceremony are already in full swing at Gandhi Maidan, where arrangements for the event, including stage setup and logistics, are being completed. The ceremony is expected to witness the induction of several new ministers into the state Cabinet.
A Cabinet meeting has also been scheduled for 5 p.m. on the same day, likely marking the first official gathering of the expanded Council of Ministers. This meeting is expected to outline the government’s immediate priorities and set the tone for governance under the new leadership.
According to insiders, the Cabinet expansion will focus on maintaining a careful balance between caste and regional representation—an important factor in Bihar’s political landscape. The leadership is also expected to include a mix of experienced politicians and emerging leaders, ensuring both continuity and fresh perspectives in governance.
Special emphasis is likely to be placed on inducting younger faces and enhancing the representation of women in the Cabinet. The move is seen as an effort to broaden the government’s appeal and strengthen its outreach across diverse sections of society.
The expansion comes in the backdrop of a significant political transition in the state. Earlier this year, Nitish Kumar stepped down from the Bihar Legislative Council, paving the way for his move to the Rajya Sabha. Subsequently, Samrat Choudhary was sworn in as the first Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party in Bihar, ending Nitish Kumar’s two-decade-long dominance in state politics.
The Cabinet expansion is now being closely watched as a key step in consolidating the new government and setting its governance agenda.
