Mizoram Governor Visits Sainik School, 14 Assam Rifles and Shalom Special School in Serchhip District
Aizawl, May, 2026: Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), visited Serchhip District today and interacted with cadets, students, teachers, ex-servicemen and security personnel at three key institutions. The Governor spent the day visiting Sainik School Chhingchhip, the headquarters of 14 Assam Rifles in Serchhip, and Shalom Special School in Serchhip.

At Sainik School Chhingchhip, he was warmly received by Brig. Puspendar Sorayan, DIG, 23 Sector Assam Rifles and the School Vice Principal, Lt. Col. Kartik Sood, AEC. Addressing teachers, staff and cadets, the Governor congratulated the school on the achievement of two cadets who successfully cleared the National Defence Academy (NDA) entrance examination. He extended his best wishes for their future endeavours. Expressing satisfaction with the overall progress and development of Sainik School Chhingchhip, he urged the Principal, teachers and staff to continue their dedicated efforts.
General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh described Sainik Schools as institutions that nurture capable and outstanding individuals. He encouraged the cadets to strive for excellence in their chosen fields, whether in the Armed Forces or any other career, and to become agents of positive change. Highlighting the nation’s need for strong future leaders, the Governor called upon the cadets to dream big, maintain discipline, stay committed to their goals and contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.
Later, the Governor visited the headquarters of 14 Assam Rifles at P&E Veng, Serchhip, where Commandant Col. Archit Goswami, SM, briefed him on the unit’s activities. He interacted with ex-servicemen, students from Govt. Serchhip College and security personnel. During the interaction, he advised the students to stay away from drugs and substance abuse and encouraged them to be honest, responsible and hardworking in whatever profession they choose.
The Governor then visited Shalom Special School in New Serchhip, where he interacted with teachers and students and distributed gifts. He was briefed on the school’s functioning by Principal Mrs A. Lalawmpuii. She expressed appreciation to the Governor and the Assam Rifles for their continued support and assistance to the institution. In recognition of his continued concern and support for Shalom Special School, a citation of appreciation was also presented to the Governor.
Shalom Special School was founded on August 17, 2005, by former Chief Minister Mr. Lal Thanhawla. The foundation stone of its present building was laid in January 2010 by the Governor during his tenure as Eastern Army Commander, with construction later carried out by the 4th Battalion of Assam Rifles under its Military Civic Action programme.
At present, Shalom Special School in Serchhip has an enrollment of 36 specially abled students.
