Xero Chief Apologises After Days Of Disruptions For Customers.

Wellington; May 2026: Chief Executive Sukhinder Singh Cassidy of accounting software company Xero has been forced to apologise after customers in multiple countries experienced multi-day disruptions. As per official sources Xero users in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom have experienced disruptions, but online forums suggest issues may still be ongoing in the UK. Chief Executive Sukhinder Singh Cassidy issued an apology in an email to Xero customers early today (12th May 2026).

“I want to reach out to you personally, and on behalf of the entire Xero leadership team, to sincerely apologise for the disruptions you have experienced on our platform over the last five days. I know it has been incredibly frustrating for many of you and not the experience we strive for at Xero”, his Email read. “Some of this has been on our side and some due to our third party platforms that we rely on. Either way, for all of you that have deadlines to meet and the pressure of hitting those deadlines, where you rely on Xero to help you get your work done, this is unacceptable. The trust you place in Xero to run your business is something we do not take for granted. We are working hard right now on determining the root cause of these issues and most importantly what we must do to avoid this in the future”.

Yesterday, Xero had provided the following explanations:

“Some customers have experienced errors accessing Xero. We can confirm all systems are now restored and our engineering teams continue to monitor closely. Our Status Page at status.xero.com is updated regularly with the latest information. We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience”.

Xero will release its final results this Thursday (14th May 2026).

Most importantly, on 27th March this year (2026) as reported by Maverick News 30, Xero and artificial intelligence firm Anthropic had announced a multi-year deal to add AI tools to the accounting software giant’s tools. Under the deal, Xero will integrate Anthropic’s Claude AI system directly into its platform, and allow Xero customers to use their financial data inside Claude’s interface. The companies say the aim is to give small businesses and their accountants real-time financial insights they can act on immediately.

Xero chief product and technology officer Diya Jolly said small business owners routinely grappled with questions about tight cashflow and overdue invoices, and the integration with Anthropic was designed to help answer those in seconds. “To run their business efficiently, small business owners and their accountants and bookkeepers need to be able to answer these questions and act on them in real time, whether using Xero or Claude”, she said.

Xero said the AI tools would reduce the time businesses spend chasing invoices, manually compiling reports, or trying to forecast cashflow, with Claude proactively surfacing insights and recommended actions. The company also emphasised that the partnership fits within its responsible data-use commitments, with financial information shared between platforms used only for a customer’s session and not used to train Claude’s AI models.

Diya Jolly said integrating Claude moves Xero further into “agentic workflows”, with its AI assistant JAX (Just Ask Xero) helping predict cashflow gaps and carry out more complex financial tasks on behalf of users.

Anthropic Managing Director for international Chris Ciauri said the tools would give small businesses access to the kind of financial intelligence that previously would have required a dedicated analyst or chief financial officer. “Instead of spending hours making sense of their financials on top of everything else it takes to run a business, customers get clear answers and recommended actions in real time”, he said. Xero and Anthropic expect to roll out the new Claude features in the coming months.

Team Maverick.
