Bulgaria Wins EUROVISION 2026.
Vienne, Austria; May 2026: In the most surprising finale of the megaevent EUROVISION 2026, Bulgaria emerged as the winner securing a mammoth 516 points in total, way ahead of second-place Israel’s 343. They weren’t among the favourites so it’s a bit of a surprise win – but so well deserved.
It is Bulgaria’s first Eurovision victory, after a 03 years hiatus from the competition, last competing in Turin in 2022. Bulgaria, which needed at least 140 points to win, was awarded with 312 points from the audience itself.
Dara Nikolaeva Yotova from Bulgaria won the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 with the song ‘Bangaranga’, eventually transforming everyone in the musical extravaganza – a Bangarangaring with her mesmerising performance. While the UK’s entrant, Look Mum No Computer, managed to avert a ‘null point’ finish – with just the 01 point awarded by Ukraine.
A fan favourite, but a somewhat unexpected win, Bulgaria has taken this year’s glass microphone. But what does the title of their song, Bangaranga, actually mean?

Dara has previously described Bangaranga as “a quiet belief that everything will be all right”. She says it’s inspired by kukeri – the ancient Bulgarian ritual performers who scare away evil – and is “is the moment you choose love over fear. It is your higher self-stepping forward – stronger than anxiety, doubt, shame, and inner chaos”.
Speaking about her previous battles with anxiety, she has also talked about having an internal dialogue with herself, staying true to her values and remaining authentic at all costs. Calling Bangaranga a ‘special power’ people can unlock, she says it helps you live through love and not fear, and gives you the self-belief to step away from other peoples’ judgement and just be yourself.
‘Stay delusional, it’s the best strategy!’ Dara reacted on her win. Speaking to the media after her big win, a clearly still-shocked Dara admitted, “I don’t know if I’m sleeping, or is it a dream? I don’t know”.
The 27 years old Bulgarian, told her fans: “I want to thank everyone out there who felt the force. And the force is God. And music is love”, further went on to call out ‘the chasing of perfection’, calling it ‘a real problem in our society right now’. Saying how she’d previously spent hours putting on her eyeliner and not wanting to leave the house if it was not perfect, she said: “Once we can drop the mask, we can be true to who we are. That’s the real Bangaranga”.
She gave a big shout out (and a little dance and wave) to her proud-looking husband who was in the room, saying: “I’m not good for discipline, you know – society discipline. I want to thank my husband – he was the one who pushed me to perform in Eurovision”. She said at times she’d doubted her abilities, but he gave her the strength to put herself out there and give it a go. A fairly small country, with around 6 million inhabitants, Dara said of Bulgaria: “We may be small, but we have a bunch of talented people”.
