KKR Fall Short in Run-Fest Against Lucknow, Lose by 4 Runs
In a thrilling high-scoring encounter at Eden Gardens, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) narrowly missed out on victory, falling short by just 4 runs against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Chasing a mammoth target of 239, KKR ended their innings at 234/7 after 20 overs, despite a valiant fight from their batters.
Lucknow, batting first, posted a formidable total of 238/3. Their batting was powered by explosive knocks—Nicholas Pooran smashed 87, Mitchell Marsh scored a dynamic 81, and Aiden Markram added 47 runs, setting a steep challenge for the hosts.
KKR began the chase with aggression. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane led from the front, scoring a fluent 61 off 35 balls, including 8 fours and 2 sixes. Venkatesh Iyer supported well with a 41-run knock off 29 balls. While Quinton de Kock faltered again with just 15 runs, Sunil Narine provided an early spark, blasting 30 off just 13 balls with 4 boundaries and 2 sixes.
Towards the end, Rinku Singh played a stunning cameo, remaining unbeaten on 38 off 15 balls. His effort included 6 fours and 2 sixes, almost pulling off a miraculous win. In the final over, Kolkata needed 24 runs to win. Ravi Bishnoi held his nerve, conceding only 19. Rinku Singh managed two boundaries and a six, while Harshit Rana added a four, but it wasn’t enough.
Despite the loss, KKR showcased tremendous fight and spirit. In the bowling department, LSG’s Akash Deep and Shardul Thakur claimed 2 wickets each, while Avesh Khan, Digvesh Rathi, and Bishnoi took one apiece.
It was a match filled with fireworks, heartbreak, and high drama—ultimately edging in Lucknow’s favor.
