Rajasthan Celebrates Manav Suthar’s Selection in India Test Squad
Jaipur, May 2026 : Rajasthan’s cricketing fraternity is celebrating a landmark moment after talented all-rounder Manav Suthar earned a place in India’s squad for the one-off Test match against Afghanistan. The announcement by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Senior Selection Committee has sparked excitement and pride across the state, with cricket officials and fans hailing the achievement as a major milestone for Rajasthan cricket.
Welcoming the selection, Mohit Jaswant Yadav, Convener of the Rajasthan Cricket Association Ad-hoc Committee, along with other committee members, congratulated the young cricketer and wished him success in his international journey. He described Suthar’s selection as a proud moment for the entire Rajasthan cricket community and said it would inspire aspiring cricketers across the state.
Suthar’s inclusion in the national Test squad is particularly significant as he has become the first cricketer from Rajasthan to be selected for India’s Test team in the last 12 years. The achievement has revived memories of some of Rajasthan’s notable Test cricketers who represented the country in earlier decades.
The one-off India-Afghanistan Test match is scheduled to begin on June 6, 2026, in Mullanpur. Cricket enthusiasts from Rajasthan are expected to closely follow the contest, hoping to see Suthar make a strong impression on the international stage.
Before Suthar’s selection, Rajasthan had produced only a few Test players. Among them was legendary all-rounder Salim Durani, who represented India between 1959 and 1973, playing 29 Test matches. Hanumant Singh also made a notable contribution with 14 Test appearances, while Parthasarathy Sharma and Pankaj Singh were among the few others from the state to feature in India’s Test side.
Suthar has built an impressive domestic cricket record across all formats. In 29 first-class matches, he has scored 945 runs and taken 129 wickets, underlining his value as a dependable all-rounder. In List A cricket, he has claimed 34 wickets and scored 350 runs in 25 matches, while in T20 cricket, he has taken 25 wickets in 29 appearances.
