Former Cabinet minister Medi Ram Dodum passes away at 69

Former Arunachal Pradesh Minister Medi Ram Dodum passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 69 after a prolonged illness, according to his family. Dodum was known for his significant contributions to the state’s horticulture and fisheries sectors during his tenure as a minister. Born on August 5, 1955, in Mlorang village, Dodum had an early life marked by academic excellence and participation in sports. His political career began in 1984, eventually leading to his election as the Bameng Assembly constituency representative and serving as a cabinet minister from 1996 to 1999.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed deep sorrow at Dodum’s passing, describing him as a “father figure” and praising his impactful leadership. Khandu noted that Dodum’s legacy, particularly his work in horticulture and fisheries, has left an indelible mark on the state, especially in East Kameng district and the Nyishi community. Governor KT Parnaik also mourned Dodum’s death, acknowledging his immense contributions to the socioeconomic development of Arunachal Pradesh throughout his long and distinguished political career.

Various organizations, including the Nyishi Elite Society (NES), also paid tribute to Dodum’s legacy, highlighting his dedication to public service and his role in founding key community organizations like the All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) and framing the byelaws of the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS). Former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and other leaders expressed their condolences, recognizing Dodum’s tireless work for the welfare and development of the state, which earned him widespread respect and admiration.
