Forest Minister Inspects Godawan Breeding Centre in Jaisalmer, Reaffirms Commitment to Conservation of State Bird

Jaipur, May 2026: Forest and Environment State Minister (Independent Charge) Sanjay Sharma on Thursday inspected the Godawan Breeding Centre located in the Sam area of Jaisalmer and reviewed ongoing conservation and breeding operations.

During the visit, the minister assessed the facilities available at the centre, conservation activities being undertaken, and detailed efforts being made for the protection and propagation of the Godawan (Great Indian Bustard), the state bird of Rajasthan.

Minister Sharma said that under the able leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the state government is continuously undertaking effective measures for the conservation and protection of the Godawan. He said that the breeding centres operated by the Forest Department are playing a crucial role in this mission and are yielding positive results.

He noted that these efforts have led to a steady increase in the population of the Godawan, along with significant improvements in its breeding success and reproductive capacity.

The minister directed officials to further strengthen conservation-related activities and place special emphasis on protecting natural habitats, ensuring that this rare and endangered bird is preserved for future generations.

He stressed that habitat conservation must remain a top priority alongside captive breeding efforts to ensure long-term sustainability of the species.

During the inspection, Jaisalmer MLA Chhotu Singh Bhati, social workers Dalpat Hingda and Savai Singh Gogli, DFO Brijmohan Gupta, along with other forest department officials and staff, were present.
