Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar and Kamraj Nagar Slum Rehabilitation Scheme: A Major Step Towards a Slum-Free Mumbai – CM Eknath Shinde
Mumbai : The Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar and Kamraj Nagar Slum Rehabilitation Scheme in Ghatkopar (East) marks a significant milestone in Mumbai’s development. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasized that this redevelopment project, undertaken in collaboration with MMRDA and SRA, is not merely a scheme but a major step by the state government towards achieving a slum-free Mumbai.
Chief Minister Shinde was joined by School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar, Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha, Housing Minister Atul Save, MP Parag Shah, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, Slum Rehabilitation Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mahendra Kalyankar, and local residents of Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar and Kamraj Nagar.
Chief Minister Shinde stated that slum rehabilitation is being initiated as a model project through the partnership of SRA and MMRDA. Government organizations are actively involved in the redevelopment plan to ensure its success. The government has decided to implement the rehabilitation scheme through a collaboration between the Slum Rehabilitation Authority, MMRDA, MHADA, CIDCO, and local bodies. As a result, flats will soon be provided to approximately two lakh slum dwellers. The contributions and efforts of SRA and MMRDA are commendable.
This project will significantly improve the living conditions of slum residents, providing them with proper housing. The SRA is responsible for planning, while MMRDA is acting as the developer. The project is crucial for making Mumbai slum-free and should be completed promptly. Efforts are also underway to establish Mumbai as a global financial hub, with accelerated infrastructure projects such as the bullet train, metro, and cement roads.
Additionally, over one and a half crores of rupees have been allocated under the ‘Chief Minister-Majhi Ladki Baheen’ scheme. The Chief Minister Youth Training Program has been launched for the youth, and the Vyoshree scheme for seniors has been introduced. Free education is being provided to girls. The government is committed to delivering justice to all sections of society, as Chief Minister Shinde stated.
A memorandum of understanding has been signed between MMRDA and SRA for the redevelopment of about 17,000 houses in Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar and Kamraj Nagar. During the redevelopment period, rent for alternative accommodation will be provided: 15,000 per month for slum dwellers and 25,000 to 30,000 per month for shopkeepers and businesses. Checks were distributed today.
