Telangana Formation Day Reflects Sacrifices and Democratic Struggle: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla

Hyderabad, June 2026: Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Tuesday said that Telangana’s formation stands as a lasting symbol of the sacrifices made by countless martyrs and the democratic struggle carried forward over several decades to achieve statehood.

Addressing the Telangana State Formation Day celebrations at Lok Bhavan, the Governor unfurled the National Flag and received a ceremonial Guard of Honour from the police forces. He paid rich tributes to those who laid down their lives during the Telangana movement and acknowledged their role in realizing the aspirations of millions of people.

Extending his greetings to the people of Telangana and members of the Telangana diaspora across the world, the Governor called upon citizens to remember and honour all those who contributed to the creation and development of the state.

Recalling the Sanskrit adage, “Janani Janmabhumishcha Swargadapi Gariyasi” (Mother and Motherland are greater than Heaven), Shukla emphasized the importance of respecting and serving one’s homeland. He said the progress achieved by Telangana since its formation reflects the dedication and hard work of its people.

The Governor highlighted Telangana’s rich cultural heritage, traditions and agrarian roots, describing them as the true foundation of the state’s identity. He noted that the region’s history is deeply connected with agriculture, water conservation and rural development.

Praising the contribution of farmers, he referred to the network of tanks and irrigation systems dating back to the Kakatiya era, which laid the groundwork for agricultural prosperity. He said that modern irrigation projects have further strengthened the farming sector, helping transform Telangana into a fertile and productive state.

Shukla also expressed pride in Telangana’s achievements beyond agriculture. He noted that the state has earned international recognition in sectors such as information technology, pharmaceuticals and startups, emerging as one of India’s leading centres for innovation and investment.

The Governor said that Telangana’s future growth should be guided by constitutional values and the principle of “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah” (May all be happy). He stressed the need for balanced development that ensures progress in both rural and urban areas while safeguarding the welfare of all sections of society.

According to him, sustainable development can be achieved only when economic growth, social welfare and urban modernization move forward together. He expressed confidence that Telangana would continue its development journey and make a significant contribution to India’s overall progress.

The celebrations at Lok Bhavan were attended by senior officials, including Governor’s Special Chief Secretary M. Dana Kishore and Joint Secretary Shashikirana Chary, along with officers, employees and staff members. The event marked the state’s formation anniversary with tributes to its history, achievements and aspirations for the future.
