KTR Demands Probe Into Alleged Disappearance of 40 Lakh Tonnes of Singareni Coal Worth ₹1,600 Crore

Hyderabad, June 2026 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Friday called for an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the alleged disappearance of nearly 40 lakh tonnes of coal from the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), claiming that the missing stock is valued at around ₹1,600 crore.

In a letter addressed to Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy, KTR questioned how such a large quantity of coal, reportedly reflected in official stock records, could have vanished without accountability. He urged the Centre to determine the whereabouts of the missing coal and initiate strict action against those responsible.

According to KTR, coal that was supposed to be available in Singareni stockyards was allegedly diverted and sold illegally, resulting in massive financial losses to the public sector undertaking. He asserted that the matter warranted urgent intervention by the Union Government.

The BRS leader alleged that since the Congress government came to power in Telangana, SCCL has been mired in a series of controversies and irregularities. He referred to the previously raised Naini coal mine tender issue and claimed that repeated demands from the BRS for investigations into alleged misconduct had failed to elicit any meaningful response from the Centre.

KTR stated that official data available on Singareni’s website showed the existence of nearly 40 lakh tonnes of coal across various mining regions, including Mandamarri, Srirampur, Ramagundam-I, Ramagundam-II, Bhupalpally, Yellandu, and Sathupalli. However, he claimed that physical verification of the sites revealed that the coal stocks were not present at the locations where records indicated they should have been stored.

He further pointed out that coal cess and income tax had allegedly been paid on these recorded stocks, raising serious questions about how such a discrepancy could occur. KTR asked why officials of the Union Coal Ministry and the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had not conducted inspections to verify the stock position.

“The coal belonging to Singareni is the property of the people of Telangana. Both the State and Central governments are putting the future of this institution at risk,” KTR said.

He alleged that if there was no understanding between Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Union Minister Kishan Reddy regarding the issue, then the Centre should have no hesitation in ordering a thorough inquiry and ensuring accountability.

Seeking greater transparency, KTR proposed that an all-party delegation be sent to the mines and stockyards concerned to conduct on-site verification. He said such an exercise would reveal the true extent of the alleged irregularities.

The former minister also revisited allegations related to the Naini coal mine tender process, claiming that specific conditions, including mandatory site-visit certificates, were introduced to favour select bidders. He maintained that despite exposing the issue, no substantial action had been taken.

In addition, KTR raised concerns over alleged irregularities involving solar power contracts, diesel procurement, explosive purchases, diversion of corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds, and the use of Singareni resources for activities unrelated to its core operations.

Accusing both the Congress and the BJP of shielding those allegedly involved in various controversies, KTR demanded a judicial inquiry headed by a sitting judge into what he described as the “₹1,600-crore coal scam.”

He warned that the livelihoods of thousands of Singareni workers and the future of one of Telangana’s most important public sector enterprises were at stake. KTR also cautioned that if the Centre failed to initiate an investigation, the BRS, along with Singareni employees and workers, would launch a statewide agitation against both the State and Central governments.
