The Role of Lawyers is Crucial in Enhancing Public Confidence in the Justice System – Justice Sanjeev Khanna
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : Lawyers play a pivotal role in enhancing public confidence in the justice system, as they possess legal expertise and a strong sense of responsibility. By raising legal awareness among the masses and ensuring justice, lawyers contribute to the betterment of society. This assertion was made by Supreme Court Justice Sanjeev Khanna during an event today.
The third convocation ceremony of Maharashtra National Law University was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Supreme Court Justice Sanjeev Khanna was the chief guest, while Supreme Court Justice and Chancellor of the University, Abhay Oak, presided over the event. Other notable attendees included Supreme Court Justice and University Assembly member Ujjal Bhuyan, Bombay High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay, Bombay High Court Justice Ravind Ghuge, Justice Mangesh Patil, Maharashtra Bar Council President Adv. Sangram Desai, Chancellor Prof. A. Lakshminath, Registrar Prof. Dr. Dhanaji Jadhav, and other dignitaries.
At the ceremony, 113 graduates were awarded degrees, including law degrees and post-graduate degrees. Gold medals were presented to outstanding graduates by the distinguished guests.
In his address, Justice Khanna emphasized that after obtaining a law degree, graduates are closely connected to the judiciary. He stressed that it is the responsibility of legal professionals to maintain and strengthen society’s faith in the justice system. Additionally, lawyers should work to create legal awareness among the public and educate people about their rights. Justice Khanna highlighted the limitless opportunities in the field of law and encouraged graduates to embrace the use of technology in their practice, noting that advancements in artificial intelligence are reshaping the legal profession. He advised lawyers to provide judicial services to the public by gathering and analyzing information and facts effectively.
Justice Khanna further emphasized the importance of legal services in strengthening public trust in the justice system. He mentioned that the National Legal Services Authority provides numerous services to support this goal and encouraged graduates to contribute to these efforts. He also noted the need for legal volunteers from various sections of society to assist in this mission, urging graduates to seize the many opportunities available in the legal field and serve as key players in the judiciary.
The welcome address was delivered by Vice Chancellor Prof. A. Lakshminath, and Registrar Prof. Dr. Dhanaji Jadhav gave the vote of thanks. The event concluded with the National Anthem.
