Telangana Launches Indiramma Indlu Housing Scheme in CURE Region, Targets One Lakh Affordable Homes

Hyderabad, July 2026: In a major push towards affordable urban housing, the Telangana government on Monday launched the Indiramma Indlu scheme for the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) region, aiming to provide permanent homes to economically weaker sections and low-income families living within the Hyderabad metropolitan area. The initiative marks a key component of the state’s long-term urban development strategy under the Telangana Rising – 2047 Vision.

The scheme was formally launched at the State Secretariat by Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, D. Sridhar Babu, and Mohammed Azharuddin, who unveiled the project brochure, application guidelines, eligibility criteria and implementation framework.

Under the programme, the Telangana Housing Board will construct Low-Income Group (LIG) Housing Towers on government-owned land located within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits. The project is designed to address the growing demand for affordable housing in Hyderabad by enabling homeless and economically weaker families to own homes in well-connected urban locations.

In the first phase, the government plans to build 500 housing units in each of the 26 Assembly constituencies falling under the CURE region. As part of the pilot phase, 7,680 apartments will be constructed before the programme is expanded to its ultimate target of one lakh affordable homes across the region.

The government will provide land free of cost and extend a subsidy of Rs 5 lakh for every housing unit, substantially reducing the financial burden on beneficiaries. The Housing Board has fixed the beneficiary’s contribution at Rs 6 lakh per flat.

Applicants will be required to pay an application fee of Rs 100 along with an Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of Rs 10,000. Officials clarified that unsuccessful applicants will receive a full refund of the EMD.

To qualify under the scheme, applicants must have been residents of Hyderabad for at least 10 years and possess an annual family income of up to Rs 6 lakh. The application process will begin on July 21 and continue until August 10.

The Housing Board has tentatively identified 17 locations for the construction of the residential towers. Each apartment will have a carpet area of 400 square feet and a built-up area of 528 square feet, offering compact yet functional housing for low-income families.

Addressing the launch programme, Transport and Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar highlighted the government’s commitment to providing affordable housing even in prime urban locations where land prices range between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 3 lakh per square yard.

He said the project demonstrates the government’s resolve to ensure that rising land values do not prevent economically weaker sections from owning homes in Hyderabad.

Industries and Information Technology Minister D. Sridhar Babu described the initiative as an important step towards making Telangana a “hut-free state.” He recalled that during the previous Congress government, several LIG housing towers had been constructed to benefit poor and middle-class families and said the new initiative builds upon that legacy.

He explained that the Indiramma Housing project forms an integral part of the broader Telangana Rising – 2047 Vision, under which the state aims to expand its economy to USD 1 trillion by 2034 and USD 3 trillion by 2047.

To achieve this ambitious objective, the government has divided Telangana into three strategic development zones—CURE (Core Urban Region Economy), PURE (Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas) and RARE (Regional Area Ring Economy)—to ensure balanced and inclusive economic growth across urban and rural regions.

According to Sridhar Babu, Hyderabad remains the focal point of the CURE vision. While transforming the city into a globally competitive metropolitan hub remains a priority, the government is equally focused on ensuring that the benefits of economic growth reach poor and middle-class residents through quality housing and urban infrastructure.

“The idea behind the CURE vision is not merely to create a global city but to ensure that every section of society shares in Hyderabad’s growth story. The Indiramma LIG Housing Towers reflect that commitment and represent another milestone in the city’s urban development journey,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the project would establish a new benchmark for affordable urban housing in India and serve as a model for similar initiatives in other states.

Highlighting one of the biggest challenges facing urban housing projects, the minister noted that unlike rural areas, cities face severe shortages of land. Constructing multi-storeyed housing towers on government land, he said, offers an effective solution to maximise available urban space while fulfilling the dream of home ownership for thousands of families.

The government also assured complete transparency in the selection of beneficiaries and allocation of flats, stating that only eligible applicants would receive houses under the scheme. As part of the social inclusion policy, 10 per cent of the housing units will be reserved for eligible outsourcing employees, contract workers and sanitation workers, ensuring that frontline and essential service personnel also benefit from the programme.

With its combination of subsidised housing, strategic urban planning and inclusive development, the Indiramma Indlu scheme is expected to become one of Telangana’s flagship urban welfare initiatives, significantly expanding affordable housing opportunities while supporting the state’s long-term economic and social development goals.
