Over 118 Police Personnel Injured During Violent Protests in Delhi Over Exam Paper Leak Issue

New Delhi, July 2026 : More than 118 personnel from the Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces were injured during violent protests in the national capital on Monday as demonstrators attempted to march towards Parliament demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including the NEET-UG paper leak issue.

According to Delhi Police, the injured included several senior officers, among them officials of the rank of Special Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, Additional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner, who were deployed to oversee security arrangements at the protest site.

The agitation began at Jantar Mantar, where thousands of supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), students and activists gathered to protest against repeated examination controversies and alleged failures in the education system. The demonstrators later attempted to march towards Parliament despite prohibitory orders imposed by the authorities.

To prevent the protesters from reaching the high-security zone, Delhi Police had erected multiple barricades and deployed a large security contingent around central Delhi. However, the situation escalated when sections of the protesters allegedly tried to breach the barricades, leading to clashes between demonstrators and security personnel.

In an official statement posted on its X account, Delhi Police said: “During today’s violent protests, more than 118 police personnel from Delhi Police and Central Police Forces, including Special Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, Additional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner rank officers deployed on duty, sustained injuries.”

Police officials said security personnel bore the brunt of the violence while attempting to maintain law and order and prevent the protesters from entering restricted areas around Parliament.

Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar later visited the hospital where the injured officers and personnel were undergoing treatment. He interacted with those admitted, enquired about their health and commended them for their commitment to duty despite sustaining injuries during the operation.

Addressing the injured personnel, the Commissioner praised their professionalism and sacrifice, stating, “Every injury on the uniform bears witness to dedication to duty.”

The protests witnessed participation from student organisations, opposition leaders and activists, who have been demanding greater accountability over alleged examination irregularities, including paper leaks and recruitment-related controversies. Protesters called for stronger safeguards to restore public confidence in the country’s examination system.

Following the violence, senior police officials said a detailed investigation would be conducted to identify those responsible for attacking security personnel and damaging public property. Authorities are also examining video footage and other evidence collected during the clashes.

Police have maintained prohibitory orders in sensitive areas of the national capital to prevent any further escalation of the situation. Security has been strengthened around Parliament, central government offices and other key installations as a precautionary measure.

The Delhi Police appealed to political organisations, student groups and the public to maintain peace and cooperate with law enforcement agencies. Officials reiterated that while peaceful protests are permitted within the framework of the law, any attempt to resort to violence or disrupt public order would invite strict legal action.

With demonstrations over examination reforms expected to continue, authorities said their immediate priority remains ensuring public safety, maintaining law and order and facilitating peaceful expression without allowing disturbances to affect normal life in the capital.
