“Celebrating Nepal’s Constitution Day: A Decade of Democratic Progress”

The Constitution Day and National Day of 2081 BS are being celebrated with great enthusiasm in Nepal and abroad. The main Constitution Day ceremony took place at Tundikhel in Kathmandu, with President Ram Chandra Paudel as the chief guest. The event saw the presence of key figures such as Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire, and National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal, along with other high-ranking officials. A special military parade was held, with an army helicopter showering flower petals and displaying banners commemorating Constitution Day 2081 BS (2024). The event also featured traditional army costumes, music, and dance performances.

Prime Minister Oli, as the chairperson of the Constitution Day Main Ceremony Committee, will deliver an address later today. In the evening, President Paudel is scheduled to host a reception at the Office of the President of Nepal. Celebrations are taking place across the country, with various programs organized by the federal, provincial, and local governments, political parties, non-governmental organizations, and other entities. Nepali diplomatic missions abroad are also participating in the festivities.

Nepal’s Constitution, promulgated on September 20, 2015 (Ashoj 3, 2072 BS), marked the culmination of a seven-decade-long struggle. It enshrines principles such as a federal democratic republic, inclusive democracy, proportional representation, and secularism. Comprising 35 parts, 308 articles, and 9 schedules, the Constitution aims to build a prosperous nation rooted in democratic values and a commitment to socialism.

As part of the celebrations, a musical performance is set to take place at Durbar Marg in Kathmandu. Leaders across political parties have extended their best wishes, urging the public to celebrate Constitution Day with enthusiasm by lighting lamps and hoisting the national flag.
