Shubman Gill Returns to No. 1 in ODI Rankings, Teen Sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Makes Massive Leap in T20Is

New Delhi, July 2026 : India’s supremacy in world cricket was reflected once again in the latest ICC player rankings released on Wednesday, with opener Shubman Gill reclaiming the No. 1 position in the ODI batting rankings, while teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi emerged as the biggest gainer in the T20 International charts following his impressive performances against Zimbabwe.

The 15-year-old Sooryavanshi grabbed the spotlight after playing a key role in India’s emphatic 3-0 T20I series sweep in Harare. The young batter surged an astonishing 230 places to break into the top 50 of the ICC T20I batting rankings for the first time in his career. He now occupies the 48th position with 536 rating points, marking a remarkable rise after scoring 151 runs in three matches at an average of 50.33.

His consistent performances throughout the series earned him the Player of the Series award, underlining his emergence as one of India’s brightest young cricketing talents.

While Sooryavanshi’s rise dominated headlines, Ishan Kishan continued to reign supreme at the top of the T20I batting rankings. The wicketkeeper-batter retained the No. 1 spot after another productive series in Zimbabwe, highlighted by a commanding knock of 81 runs. Kishan currently has 910 rating points, having briefly reached a career-best 916 points during the series.

That rating places Kishan among the highest-rated T20I batters in history. Only fellow Indian Abhishek Sharma, who achieved 931 rating points, and England’s Dawid Malan with 919 points, have recorded higher T20I batting ratings.

India’s strong showing against Zimbabwe also resulted in significant improvements for several other players. Tilak Varma climbed two places to sixth in the T20I batting rankings, while Shreyas Iyer moved up seven positions to 24th after contributing valuable runs during the series.

Among the bowlers, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi registered one of the biggest gains for India, jumping 31 places to reach 41st in the T20I bowling rankings after claiming three wickets in the series.

Despite suffering a clean sweep, Zimbabwe also had positives to take away from the rankings update. Experienced all-rounder Ryan Burl improved six places to become joint 85th in the T20I batting rankings, while pace spearhead Blessing Muzarabani climbed ten positions to 26th among T20I bowlers following his disciplined performances.

In the 50-over format, Shubman Gill reclaimed the No. 1 ODI batting ranking, ending New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell’s stint at the top. Mitchell had occupied the summit since January, but his absence from recent international cricket enabled Gill to return to the pinnacle of the rankings.

The ODI bowling rankings also witnessed notable movement. Namibia’s left-arm spinner Bernard Scholtz entered the top seven after producing a string of impressive performances during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series featuring Nepal and the Netherlands in Utrecht.

The weekly ICC rankings also recognised standout performers in Test cricket. West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves made significant gains after his match-winning display against Pakistan in Trinidad. He climbed 21 places to 48th in the Test bowling rankings and advanced eight positions to ninth among Test all-rounders following an exceptional spell that included five successive wicket maidens.

Elsewhere, West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales improved to 24th in the Test bowling rankings, while Pakistan pacer Mohammad Abbas rose to 17th. Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam also enjoyed an upward move, climbing four places to 15th in the Test batting rankings after scoring a valuable second-innings half-century.

The latest ICC rankings further highlight India’s growing depth across all three formats, with established stars maintaining their dominance and a new generation of young talent making an immediate impact on the international stage.
