Arvind Kejriwal’s Record-Breaking Digital Rally on E20, 7 Lakh Watch Town Hall Live

Delhi, August 2026: Amid the intensifying debate over E20 petrol in the country, Saturday witnessed a major digital contest that triggered fresh discussion on social media. On one side was the National Town Hall Against E20, organised by Arvind Kejriwal at Constitution Club in Delhi, while on the other was a live programme featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The biggest talking point, however, was not the speeches but the number of people watching the events online.

During the town hall, around 7 lakh people (7,00,262) were reportedly watching live on the official YouTube channel of the Aam Aadmi Party. At the same time, around 3,324 viewers were shown watching live on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official YouTube channel. Screenshots comparing the two figures were widely shared on social media, with users commenting that people were now listening to a leader who was giving voice to their concerns.

The Aam Aadmi Party claimed that the digital viewership was not merely a statistic but reflected growing public concern over E20 petrol. According to the party, thousands of ordinary citizens joined the town hall because it provided a platform for vehicle owners, mechanics, professors, delivery riders and other affected groups to raise their concerns.

Participants highlighted issues such as reduced mileage, possible engine problems, higher servicing costs and the impact of E20 fuel on older vehicles.

Kejriwal put forward three key demands before the government. He called for both pure petrol and E20 petrol to be made available at every fuel station, demanded that pure petrol be priced lower than E20, and sought a reduction in petrol prices to below Rs 84 per litre.

He also alleged that the government was pushing E20 across the country without making sufficient scientific data and public reports available, while ignoring concerns raised by consumers.

The debate subsequently spilled onto social media, where several users questioned why consumers should not be given a choice if E20 is beneficial. Some argued that the government should directly address public concerns rather than dismissing criticism. Supporters of Kejriwal said the town hall had brought the everyday problems of vehicle owners into the centre of the national debate.

The Aam Aadmi Party described the event as “the world’s largest digital rally”, claiming that the massive online participation demonstrated Kejriwal’s ability to use digital platforms to directly engage with citizens on issues affecting their daily lives.

Party leaders argued that when large numbers of people voluntarily join an online discussion about a government policy, it should serve as a signal that public concerns cannot be ignored.

The comparison between the two YouTube livestreams has since become a major topic of discussion online. While Kejriwal’s supporters have portrayed the figures as evidence of changing public sentiment, critics have argued that differences in programming, audience behaviour and viewing patterns make a direct comparison difficult.

Nevertheless, the reported 7 lakh versus 3,324 live-viewer figures have emerged as one of the most widely discussed aspects of the ongoing E20 debate, with the Opposition using the numbers to highlight what it describes as growing public dissatisfaction with the government’s fuel policy.
