Accuracy of voter list is the basis of transparency and fairness of elections: State Election Commissioner Ajay Singh

State Election Commissioner of Chhattisgarh, Shri Ajay Singh, while briefing electoral roll observers for the local body elections, said that the correctness of the voter list is the basis of transparency and fairness of the election. He said that a special briefing has been organized today by the State Election Commission to make the electoral roll correct and error-free, the main objective of which is to remove the possible errors in the roll and to enter the names of all eligible voters in the list so that the election can be conducted in a fair and transparent manner. Commissioner Shri Ajay Singh gave instructions to make the voter list correct and error-free within the stipulated time frame.

Commissioner Shri Ajay Singh told all the observers to keep inspecting the work being done by ERO and AERO in various stages of the revision programme on time and if the rules and instructions are not being followed in any stage of the revision programme in the district allotted to you, then immediately inform the concerned District Election Officer and the Commission and get the solution.

In the briefing, the electoral observers were given detailed information about their important role in the electoral process. The observers were instructed to exercise utmost vigilance in the process of checking and correcting the voter list. It should be ensured that no name is repeated in the list, names of dead persons should be removed, and names of new eligible voters should be added. The Commission clearly directed that the name of the voter who has completed 18 years of age as on 1 January 2024 must be added to the list. And it should be widely publicized at the district level.

Commission Secretary Dr Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure said that in case of any problem at the district level, the solution can be obtained by contacting the State Election Commission. The instructions and prescribed procedures issued by the commission should be followed 100 percent and special care should be taken that no dispute situation of any kind should arise. He said that the responsibility given by the commission should be followed seriously. On this occasion, Deputy Secretary of the State Election Commission Dr Neha Kapoor and Mr Alok Srivastava were present.
