Beautify the soil with organic farming, crop rotation will increase production
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai recently honored Shri Raman Lal Sahu, a farmer of village Gadadih in Dhamtari district who promotes organic farming. Shri Sahu is playing an important role in increasing the fertility of the soil by doing organic farming and is also conserving water by doing crop rotation.
In today’s modern era, farming is not given as much importance as government or any other job. Along with various schemes being run by the Chhattisgarh government for farmers, paddy procurement at support price has encouraged people to turn towards farming. Progressive farmer Shri Ramanlal Sahu has left traditional farming behind and adopted modern farming. While promoting organic farming, he has also done commendable work in the direction of soil, water and environmental conservation. Shri Sahu says that for the last 8 years, he has been doing organic farming of paddy on more than 3 acres of land. In the direction of water conservation, he is cultivating pulses and oilseeds in the Rabi crop. This has increased the fertility of the land as well as the production of crops.
Shri Sahu says that along with being a farmer, he is also an animal friend, he is protecting the stray cattle roaming in the streets and neighborhoods by preparing a Gauthan in an area of about 25 decimals near his farm. The dung obtained from these cows is being used for organic farming. By selling milk, they are earning a net income of 9 thousand rupees every month. Mr. Sahu also told that he has made a small pond in the field, through which he has arranged water for the cows, and has also got a solar panel installed by CREDA. Along with this, he arranges fodder for the cows by installing a cow dung gas plant.
Shri Ramanlal Sahu is encouraging other farmers to do organic farming by making them aware of the ill-effects of chemical farming. Along with this, he is producing poison-free food grains by using the cow dung and cow urine produced from his cowshed in his fields and making arrangements to supply it to the consumers.
