Pope Urges Global Action to Halt Escalation in Lebanon, Calls for Peace

Pope Francis has made an impassioned plea to the international community, urging them to take decisive steps to stop the ongoing violence in Lebanon. He expressed deep sorrow over the bombings, deaths, and destruction plaguing the country, calling the situation “unacceptable.” The Pope shared his solidarity with the people of Lebanon, who have suffered extensively due to the recent escalation. In a post on X, he wrote, “I am saddened by the news coming from Lebanon about bombings, death, and destruction. May the international community make every effort to stop this terrible escalation.”

During his Wednesday General Audience in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Francis reiterated his concerns, condemning the recent Israeli raids against Hezbollah in Lebanon, which have resulted in the deaths of over 550 people, including civilians and children. Thousands more have been injured, and many have been forced to flee their homes. The Pope called on the world to pray for all those affected by war, including in Lebanon, Ukraine, Myanmar, Palestine, Israel, and Sudan. He also highlighted the importance of his upcoming Apostolic Journey to Luxembourg and Belgium, scheduled for 26-29 September, expressing hope that it would inspire a renewed faith in those regions.
