Fruit Festival Held as Part of Poshan Maah in Saitual

Saitual : Today at 11:00 AM, the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) organized a Fruit Festival and an awareness program on balanced diets and the promotion of local fruits. The event was part of the Poshan Maah initiative and was aimed at encouraging women and children to adopt healthier eating habits. The program was held at the DHEW office.

The event was led by Pi Mary Malsawmkimi, the District Mission Coordinator, who highlighted that the primary goal of Poshan Maah is to ensure that pregnant and lactating women, as well as children under six years of age, receive proper nutrition. She emphasized the importance of promoting local fruits and explained that the Fruit Festival is not just about imported fruits but also about encouraging the consumption of locally grown, nutritious fruits.

Pi Mary Malsawmkimi urged the participants to incorporate locally grown fruits into their daily diets for better health and well-being. She pointed out that the locally available fruits are rich in essential nutrients and can greatly contribute to improved health.

Dr. Lalthasanga further elaborated on the health benefits of various fruits that were showcased at the festival, including guava, orange, papaya, and dragon fruit. He explained that these fruits are excellent sources of vitamins and antioxidants, which help in boosting immunity and preventing diseases. Dr. Lalthasanga also advised pregnant women to avoid consuming certain fruits like papaya and grapes, but mentioned that most other fruits are safe for children.

The Fruit Festival was attended by a wide range of participants, including pregnant and lactating women, mothers with young children, and Anganwadi children. Various locally grown fruits were displayed and distributed for consumption during the event.
