CM Shri Bhupendra Patel Launches Statewide Garib Kalyan Mela from Deesa

Gandhinagar : Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the 14th edition of the Garib Kalyan Mela, which was initiated in Gujarat in 2009-10, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel in Deesa, Banaskantha. The Chief Minister emphasized that the Garib Kalyan Mela has evolved into a public campaign dedicated to empowering the poor through comprehensive assistance and benefits. These Garib Kalyan Melas have proven to be effective platforms for delivering the advantages of various welfare schemes to underprivileged communities, including those in remote areas. During the Garib Kalyan Mela in Deesa, the Chief Minister distributed benefits and assistance worth ₹45 crore to over 11,000 underprivileged beneficiaries in a single day. This 14th series of the Garib Kalyan Mela launched across 33 districts in the presence of ministers, has benefited a total of 1 lakh 734 beneficiaries with benefits and assistance exceeding ₹318 crore. Ultimately, more than 12 lakh needy people are set to benefit from ₹4,568 crore through the Garib Kalyan Melas in this phase.

Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel remarked that a new chapter in welfare for the poor has commenced in the country under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s guidance, exemplifying a model of economic and social empowerment for the underprivileged. The Chief Minister emphasized that the economic empowerment of the underprivileged has been realized through initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, PM SVANidhi Yojana, and Jan Dhan Yojana. Furthermore, programs like the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, Ayushman Bharat PMJAY, and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana have been instrumental in socially uplifting underprivileged communities.

He highlighted that the Prime Minister’s vision of GYAN—Garib (Poor), Yuva (Youth), Annadata (Farmers), and Naari Shakti (Women Power)—establishes these four pillars as vital for constructing a Viksit Bharat. The Chief Minister noted that government initiatives are crafted with the welfare of the most vulnerable, specifically the poor and underprivileged—in focus, ensuring effective implementation. Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel stated that the Prime Minister’s dedication to empowering the poor has been felt by the people of Gujarat through the Garib Kalyan Mela, where the government has delivered welfare scheme benefits. He expressed optimism that those who received assistance during the event would achieve self-reliance. The Chief Minister stated that the Prime Minister’s vision of adopting a saturation approach in welfare schemes, which allows needy and poor beneficiaries to access 100 per cent of the benefits, will be realized through the Garib Kalyan Melas. He reiterated the government’s commitment to empowering the poor by transparently delivering benefits from around 20 different government departments at a single location. The Chief Minister also urged everyone to adopt cleanliness as a daily habit, promoting public participation in the Swachhta Abhiyan inspired by the Prime Minister. 

Water Resources and Water Supply Minister Shri Kunvarji Bavaliya highlighted the significance of the Juth Pani Purvatha Yojana (Group Water Supply Scheme) for Banaskantha district. This initiative covers 156 villages across the Deesa, Lakhni, and Amirgarh talukas. The Juth Pani Purvatha Yojana will be implemented in five phases; phases 1 to 4 have already benefited 88 villages, and work on phase 5, which includes 68 villages in Amirgarh taluka, is currently in progress. The Minister also emphasized that the Ranakpur offtake-based BK-3, P-2 Pani Purvatha Sudharna Yojana, part of the Narmada main canal, has been a significant boon for the district’s residents. He pointed out that various initiatives under the Garib Kalyan Mela, launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during his time as Chief Minister of Gujarat, have helped needy families regain their dignity.

Attendees at the event included MP Shri Bharat Sinh Dabhi, Shri Babubhai Desai, MLAs Shri Pravinbhai Mali, Shri Aniket Thakar, Shri Mavji Desai, Shri Keshaji Chauhan, Secretary Smt. Mona Khandhar, Smt. Sahmina Hussain, District Collector Shri Mihir Patel, District Development Officer Shri M.J. Dave, Superintendent of Police Shri Akshayraj Makwana, Shri Kirtisinh Vaghela, along with numerous district officials along with a large number of people.
