PM Modi Joins NDMC Students for Shramdaan at Navyug School on Swachh Bharat Mission’s 10th Anniversary.

Hon’ble Prime Minister performed Shramdaan with students of NDMC Navyug School, Pandara Park in New Delhi under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the “Swachh Bharat Mission.”

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, visited the New Delhi Municipal Council’s (NDMC) Navyug School, Pandara Park in New Delhi this morning and performed Swachhata Shramdaan with the students of the school under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign.

Ten years ago, on 2nd October 2014, the Hon’ble Prime Minister launched the Swachh Bharat Mission from the NDMC area at Valmiki Basti, Mandir Marg in New Delhi. Exactly a decade later, Shri Modi Ji again visited the NDMC area in connection with the Swachh Bharat Mission at NDMC’s Navyug School and performed Swachhata Shramdaan here as well.

The NDMC feels very honored to have the Hon’ble Prime Minister visit Navyug School, Pandara Park, to perform Shramdaan and encourage the students with his inspiring words as future torchbearers of the nation. During his visit, he listened to the Swachhata Anthem and viewed the exhibition of creative works made by the students on the theme of the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle).

The Hon’ble Prime Minister interacted with the students during the occasion and actively participated in the “Swachhata Abhiyaan” alongside them. He discussed the benefits of cleanliness for the surrounding environment, asked about yoga, and encouraged the students to perform yoga asanas. The students sang the Swachhata Geet, which was appreciated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.

Since the Swachh Bharat Mission was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Modi Ji, at Valmiki Basti in the NDMC area, it has given the NDMC the significant responsibility of maintaining cleanliness and greenery in line with the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister.

Also, on 2nd October, the Swachhata Hi Sewa Abhiyaan culminated with Shramdaan activities at various prominent locations. It was a proud moment for the NDMC as the Hon’ble Prime Minister joined the students of Navyug School, Pandara Park, who have taken the lead in contributing to the Swachhata Abhiyaan.

Additionally, the NDMC was honored by the presence of Hon’ble MP Smt. Bansuri Swaraj, who actively participated in the Swachhata Shramdaan at Sarojini Nagar, while Hon’ble Union Minister for DoPT Shri Jitendra Singh participated in the Swachhata activities at Nehru Park, underscoring the Government’s commitment to the cause.

In its continuous efforts towards a Clean and Green Capital, the NDMC undertook a series of transformational activities under the Swachhata Hi Sewa 2024 Abhiyaan from 17th September onwards, culminating today on 2nd October, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti. The theme of the campaign, “Sanskaar Swachhata, Swabhaav Swachhata,” emphasizes the integration of cleanliness into everyday behavior and values.

The Swachhata Hi Sewa Abhiyaan was launched with a grand sanitation vehicle fleet rally from Connaught Place, flagged off by Hon’ble MP Smt. Bansuri Swaraj. The rally featured sanitation vehicles and sanitation workers, showcasing NDMC’s robust sanitation machinery and its commitment.

During the last 15 days of Swachhata Pakhwada, the NDMC organized over 170 events, involving more than 50,000 citizens and 30,000 students. The Abhiyaan has transformed 18 black spots in New Delhi, turning neglected areas into vibrant community spaces. Through the power of creativity, places like Shivaji Stadium have been revived with colorful graffiti, enhancing the pride of our public spaces.

The NDMC also focused on empowering Safai Mitras, with more than 500 Safai Mitras participating in yoga camps to enhance their physical and mental well-being. Additionally, the NDMC’s commitment to Safai Mitra safety included the distribution of 1,900 yoga mats and organizing health camps for the annual health check-up of over 1,900 Safai Mitras, which has had a lasting impact on their health.

The NDMC also launched innovative initiatives, such as the collection of 750 kg of plastic through over 100 plastic collection drives, as well as cleanliness and plogging drives.

Students have taken a lead in these drives, participating not only in cleaning streets but also raising awareness through activities like ‘Waste to Art,’ showcasing how creativity can transform waste into treasure.

Furthermore, the NDMC’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ drive has resulted in the planting of over 10,000 trees, linking the act of planting trees to the emotional bond we share with our mothers, thereby fostering a deeper commitment to environmental conservation, which is an integral part of cleanliness.

Public awareness has been another cornerstone of our success, with street play performances and massive cleanliness drives sparking change at 61 locations.

A cultural event was organized to honor the unsung heroes of the Swachhata Abhiyaan—NDMC Safai Mitras. This event featured art, music, and dance performances by sanitation workers, students, and artists from the National School of Drama at Navayug School, Sarojini Nagar. The event was well attended by students, sanitation workers, their families, and other stakeholders who have played a vital role in the NDMC’s continued success in maintaining sanitation standards across the city.

NDMC also hosted a grand ‘Waste to Wonder’ Art Exhibition and Felicitation Ceremony, where students displayed innovative artworks created from recycled materials and waste. The best-performing sanitation worker, sewer man, gardener, best school, and overall best ward were also recognized for their exemplary service over the years. The felicitation ceremony was held in honor of these individuals and acknowledged their tireless efforts in ensuring the cleanliness of public places, making them the pillars of NDMC’s Swachhata team.
