Qualitative Transformation is Necessary to Face Growing Security Challenges – Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Pune : Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the necessity of qualitative transformation to address the growing security challenges posed by increasing urbanization and industrialization in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis highlighted Pune’s status as the growth engine of the economy, describing it as the manufacturing, technology, and startup capital of India. He noted that the city’s rapid urbanization and industrialization have altered the challenges faced by the police department. To effectively tackle these challenges, a new police structure has been developed within the state’s police department in 2023 after 63 years.
Construction and modernization of police stations are underway where needed. Fadnavis announced that works worth approximately ₹720 crore in Pune and Mira-Bhayander are being inaugurated today, with Bhoomi Pujan ceremonies also taking place.
He mentioned that Maharashtra boasts the most sophisticated cyber security center of its kind in the country. With an investment of nearly ₹750 crore, world-class equipment has been acquired for the center, enhancing its ability to quickly track down criminals. The police department is integrating all cameras through a network of CCTV systems. He issued strict directives ensuring that there will be no compromise concerning crimes against women, children, and drug offenses. Any police personnel found guilty in drug-related cases will face immediate dismissal. Furthermore, Fadnavis stated that the police department is proactively working to maintain law and order by implementing measures such as CCTV installations, lighting systems, and night vision cameras in dark, isolated, and remote areas.
In his introductory remarks, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar noted that, considering the rising population and the increasing number of vehicles, seven new police stations have been established under the Pune City Commissionerate to deter criminal activity. He affirmed that the police department is vigorously maintaining law and order in the district and conducting security checks in remote areas, while special security measures are being implemented to enhance safety.
Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey added that, in light of the city’s growing urbanization and industrialization, a new circle has been approved for administrative efficiency. A new location for the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has been secured at Tathwade, and four new police stations have received government approval. He expressed optimism that the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate will bring about significant qualitative change.
During the event, Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis inaugurated seven new police stations in Pune city, launched the second phase of the CCTV project, laid the foundation stone for the new building of the Pune Police Commissionerate and Bundagarden Police Station, inaugurated four new police stations in the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, and opened the Cyber Police Station and the PCCT Shield application.
