Expressions of Interest invited for thematic gates; financial tender process is underway : Mahakumbh

Prayagraj : In a significant effort to beautify Prayagraj ahead of the Mahakumbh, the Yogi Adityanath government plans to construct thematic gates in the fair area.

This initiative aims to create a grand and divine atmosphere that reflects the spiritual significance of the event, warmly welcoming millions of devotees and visitors to the city.

Due to the flooding of rivers in the Kumbh area, the Kumbh Mela administration initially focused on the permanent preparations for the fair. However, with the rapid decrease in floodwaters, temporary works in the Kumbh area are now gaining momentum. This includes the beautification of the Kumbh area, with thematic gates being constructed in the fairgrounds.

The Yogi Adityanath government is operating in mission mode to ensure that security, facilities, and cleanliness are prioritized for Maha Kumbh, while also enhancing the event’s aesthetic appeal. Prayagraj is being beautified in anticipation of the Maha Kumbh, creating an atmosphere designed to leave devotees in awe and fully immerse them in the spirit of religious faith. As work on beautification in the urban area accelerates, efforts are now also being made to enhance the Kumbh area’s charm.

Aparajita Singh, the Regional Tourism Officer of Prayagraj, stated that the beautification plan for the Kumbh area includes the construction of 30 temporary thematic gates.

“This work was halted due to the floods, but now that the floodwaters are receding, we have invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the installation of these gates. To date, we have received designs for 600 gates from 10 firms in response to the EOI. The financial tender process is underway for the selected designs,” she explained.

She also mentioned that the construction of these gates will incorporate 14 gems from the ‘Samudra Manthan’, reflecting the mythological significance of the Kumbh.

The regional tourism officer stated that the gates will be constructed in all four directions of the Kumbh area, with a priority on those sectors of the fair where tourist and devotee traffic is highest.

“Signage for the major sectors of the fair will also be installed around these gates. During the construction, special attention will be given to lighting arrangements to ensure that the gates attract the attention of tourists and devotees from a distance at night, showcasing their grandeur,” she added.
