NDMC Launches Massive Cleanliness Drive Ahead of Diwali
New Delhi : To ensure a clean and green Diwali, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has launched an intensive cleanliness campaign across markets, residential areas, major business hubs, and public spaces. Approximately 3,000 workers are involved in this round-the-clock operation, focusing on cleaning, washing, repairing, and painting.
The initiative aims to reduce air pollution and enhance the city’s beauty, with particular attention given to pavements, roads, and public spaces. Special cleaning efforts are underway in key areas, including Connaught Place, Sarojini Market, Bengali Market, and Khan Market. Wet cleaning with water jets and pressure jetting machines is being employed extensively to remove dust and pollutants.
In addition to cleaning efforts, NDMC is working on beautifying the city’s roads and walls with artwork that promotes cleanliness and environmental awareness. The “One Road, One Day” campaign also includes ongoing painting and maintenance of roads, railings, footpaths, and signage.
Efforts to combat air pollution are supported by the horticulture department, which is washing pavements and sprinkling water on roadside trees and plants. Anti-mosquito fogging has also been intensified, focusing on residential and market areas to curb mosquito breeding.
NDMC is coordinating with Market Traders Associations and Residents Welfare Associations to ensure active participation and community involvement. The campaign covers a wide area, including the Central Secretariat, Diplomatic Enclave, schools, colleges, hospitals, and government offices.
Awareness initiatives such as student rallies and street plays are planned to further promote cleanliness during the Diwali festive season, with senior officials monitoring the campaign’s progress daily.
