Excise Department Action Leads to Seizure of Goods Worth 54 Lakhs

Mumbai : On October 26, various teams of the State Excise Department conducted operations at two locations—Mumbra Wind Road in Thane district and Sahkar Nagar, Link Road in Chembur, Mumbai. The raids targeted vehicles transporting Indian-made foreign liquor in Mumbra and vehicles carrying foreign-made cannabis-infused products in Chembur.

As a result, seven suspects were arrested—five in Chembur and two in Mumbra. The combined value of the seized goods amounts to Rs. 54,48,600, with Rs. 35,73,400 worth of items confiscated in Chembur and Rs. 18,75,200 worth of items seized in Mumbra.

The operation led to the seizure of three tempo vehicles, 2,232 kilograms of hemp-mixed substances, and 120 boxes of Indian-made foreign liquor. The accused have been charged under the Maharashtra Liquor Prohibition Act, 1949.

The actions were carried out under the guidance of State Excise Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi, Director Prasad Surve, and Konkan Divisional Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Pawar. The team in Thane, led by Superintendent Praveen Tambe and Deputy Superintendent Vaidya, Pokle, and A.D. Deshmukh, took charge of the Mumbra operation.

In Chembur, the operation was conducted by sub-inspectors Vishal Sakpal, Rinkesh Dangat, Hanumant Yadav, Inspector Mahaveer Kolekar, and personnel including Ketan Vaze, Bhausaheb Karad, Hanumant Gadve, Vijay Patil, Narayan Jankar, Shriram Rathod, Amit Sanap, and Kunal Tadvi. The Mumbra operation involved Inspector MP Dhanshetty, Second Inspector N.R. Mahale, Sub Inspector S.R. Misal, Assistant Sub Inspector B.G. Thorat, and personnel including Khemner, R.S. Patil, P.A. Mahajan, P.S. Nagre, M.G. Shaikh, and Smt. S.S. Yadav.

Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Pawar of Konkan provided information about the actions taken.
