Indian Air Force MiG-29 Fighter Jet Crashes Near Agra, Pilot Safe
An Indian Air Force MiG-29 fighter jet crashed near Agra on Monday, with the pilot successfully ejecting from the aircraft before impact. The jet was en route to Agra for a scheduled exercise after taking off from Adampur, Punjab. Defense officials confirmed the pilot’s safety, and there were no reported civilian casualties at the crash site. Videos from the scene, shared on social media, show smoke rising from the wreckage as onlookers gather nearby.
A court of inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the crash and assess the circumstances leading up to it. This incident marks another addition to the recent history of MiG-29 accidents. On September 2, a MiG-29 crashed in Rajasthan’s Barmer district after a technical malfunction; in that incident as well, the pilot managed to eject safely before the jet went down.
The MiG-29, often referred to as the “flying coffin” by many, has a reputation for technical challenges and frequent accidents, leading to numerous incidents involving mechanical failures. Despite its operational history, the aircraft’s safety record has been a point of concern, with past accidents claiming lives and raising questions about its reliability.
