Union Minister of State, Adv. George Kurian, Visits Hnahthial District to Review Central Schemes Implementation
Hnahthial District welcomed Adv. George Kurian, Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, who arrived on an official visit to review the progress of various central government schemes. During his visit, he held discussions with district officials and inspected projects undertaken under schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Mid-day Meal, Kisan Credit Card (KCC), Ayushman Bharat, and initiatives under the Agriculture and Fisheries Ministries. The Deputy Commissioner, Ms. Rita Lalnunmawii Pachuau, along with other district officers, participated in the discussions.

Upon arriving at the Rallangtlang Helipad at 1:30 PM, Minister Kurian proceeded to the Horeb Lodge Conference Hall, where he engaged with district officials. He commended the ongoing efforts and urged further improvement in implementing central schemes. Highlighting specific needs, the Minister emphasized the urgent requirement to introduce a science stream at Government Hnahthial College, stating that funding for such an initiative could be sought from central resources. He also stressed the importance of upgrading hospital and college infrastructure to better serve the local population.
Following the meeting, the Minister inspected Anganwadi-cum-Crèche centers and the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary building. Acknowledging the pressing need for upgraded hospital laboratories and related facilities, he assured the officials of his support in addressing these requirements promptly. At Hnahthial District Hospital, he reviewed ongoing services and reiterated his commitment to resolving challenges faced by the institution.
Minister Kurian later visited the Solar Pump House established under the Jal Jeevan Mission at Leite. He expressed satisfaction with its performance, noting that it provides water to 198 households, and praised the mission’s execution in the district. Additionally, he inspected a housing unit constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) and appreciated its quality.
At the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) complex, the Minister witnessed a warm reception that included a performance by the Government Southern High School Boys Pipe Band and a Cheraw dance. The visit also featured a stall exhibition showcasing the achievements of various departments such as Agriculture, Sericulture, Fisheries, Horticulture, MHIP, and MzSRLM.
Adv. George Kurian concluded his visit in Hnahthial by emphasizing the need for continued collaboration to enhance infrastructure and services in the district. He departed the district via helicopter at 8:30 AM the following morning, en route to Lengpui Airport, before continuing to Delhi.
