Principal Secretary, Mines, visits Mangala Processing Terminal and Jalipa Lignite Mines

Jaipur : Principal Secretary, Mines and Petroleum, Mr. T. Ravikant, on Friday, visited Vedanta Cairn’s Mangala Processing Terminal and the Jalipa Mining area of the Barmer Lignite Mining Company (a joint venture of the state government) in Barmer district, providing necessary instructions. Emphasizing the need to enhance crude oil production in the Mangala region, Mines Secretary Mr. Ravikant stated that Vedanta Cairn must focus on maximizing production using the latest ASP technology. He further stressed that the production of oil must be increased by adopting the latest techniques of crude oil extraction from across the world.

On Friday, Principal Secretary Mr. T. Ravikant, accompanied by Additional Director, Petroleum, Mr. Ajay Sharma, and officials from Vedanta Cairn, toured various units of the Mangala Processing Terminal. Additionally, he observed the oil extraction wells in the Mangala region and gained insights into the entire process from production to processing.

Mr. Ravikant mentioned that this area is one of the significant oil production regions in the country. The crude oil processed here is sent to several refineries across the nation. Before this, he also reviewed the Jalipa Mines of the state government’s joint venture, BLMC, and received detailed information about lignite mining and its use in power generation at JSW. He directed that lignite should be extracted using zero-loss technology and that strict adherence to mining safety standards must be ensured.

At the Mangala Processing Terminal, Brigadier B.S. Shekhawat, Vice President of Vedanta Cairn, provided a detailed briefing on the various units of MPT, their functioning, and production. He informed that the Mangala Processing Terminal has a processing capacity of 250,000 barrels per day. Crude oil produced in Mangala, Bhagyam, and Aishwarya, among other sites, is processed here and transported via pipeline to refineries in Viramgam, Jamnagar, and other locations.

During the visit to BLMC’s Jalipa Lignite Mines, Mr. Anil Sood of JSW gave an extensive overview of the lignite mines and their extraction process.

Earlier on Thursday, the Principal Secretary had visited HPCL Rajasthan Refinery to review its progress and provided necessary instructions to the refinery officials.

During this time, Additional Director, Petroleum, Mr. Ajay Sharma, Barmer Mining Engineer Mr. Ved Prakash, and other officials were present to share departmental updates. Senior officials of BLMC and the Mangala Processing Terminal participated during the visits to Jalipa Lignite Mines and the Mangala Processing Terminal.
