Hemant Soren Sworn in as Jharkhand’s Chief Minister for the Fourth Time

Hemant Soren has taken charge as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand for the fourth time. The swearing-in ceremony, held at Morhabadi Maidan in Ranchi, marked a significant political moment with the presence of prominent leaders from the INDIA bloc. Governor Santosh Gangwar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Soren, who becomes the 14th Chief Minister of the state.

Notably, no ministers were sworn in alongside the Chief Minister, contrary to earlier discussions of appointing six to eight ministers during the event. Hemant Soren’s father, Shibu Soren, a three-time former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, graced the ceremony with his presence, symbolizing the family’s enduring political legacy.

The event also saw a show of strength by leaders of the INDIA bloc, underlining the alliance’s cohesion and support for Soren’s leadership. Among the dignitaries present were Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bihar Assembly Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

The formation of the Hemant Soren government follows a decisive victory in the Jharkhand Assembly elections, where the JMM-led alliance, including the Congress, RJD, and Left parties, secured 56 out of 81 seats. This exceeded the majority mark of 41 seats, cementing the bloc’s dominance in the state.

The election results were declared on November 23, and within a day, Hemant Soren met with Governor Santosh Gangwar to stake his claim to form the government. The victory reflects the strong mandate given to the alliance, with the INDIA bloc demonstrating its strength and unity during this political milestone.

With Soren’s leadership entering a new term, Jharkhand embarks on a renewed journey under a government committed to fulfilling the people’s aspirations.
