BJP Victory in West Bengal Signals Shift Towards Stability and Security: Manik Saha

Agartala, May 2026 : Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory in West Bengal reflects the people’s desire for political change, improved governance and stronger national security, particularly in light of concerns over cross-border infiltration.

Celebrating the outcome, Saha, along with state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee and other senior leaders, led a victory rally in Agartala. The celebrations followed the BJP’s landmark win over the All India Trinamool Congress government led by outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, marking the party’s first electoral triumph in the state.

Addressing the media, Saha said the electorate in West Bengal had long been seeking relief from what he described as prolonged misgovernance, first under the Left Front regime and later under the Trinamool Congress. He alleged that both administrations had failed to ensure democratic practices and good governance.

Highlighting security concerns, the Chief Minister pointed to the issue of infiltration from across international borders, calling it a serious threat to national security. He asserted that the change in government would help curb such activities and restore stability in the region. “The use of Bengal as a corridor for infiltration will be stopped, and peace will return,” Saha said, expressing confidence in the BJP’s governance model.

He further alleged that the Trinamool Congress had maintained power through coercive means and that people had endured years of political violence and suppression. According to him, the citizens of West Bengal had been deprived of “real democracy” during both the 35-year rule of the Left Front and the subsequent 15-year tenure of the Trinamool Congress government.

Saha credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what he termed as “liberating” the people of the state. He said that under a “double-engine government”—a term often used to describe BJP-led administrations at both the Centre and state levels—West Bengal would witness accelerated development and improved governance.

Responding to allegations by the Trinamool Congress that the BJP would interfere in citizens’ food habits, Saha dismissed the claims as baseless. He cited Tripura as an example, noting that despite the BJP being in power for eight years, there had been no interference in dietary choices. He added that Tripura remains one of the highest fish-consuming regions in the country, underlining the party’s respect for local traditions and lifestyles.

The Chief Minister, who actively campaigned in West Bengal, congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP national president Nitin Nabin for the party’s success.

Several prominent BJP leaders from Tripura, including former Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik, participated in the campaign across various districts of West Bengal. Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb also played a significant role as co-observer for the elections and was actively involved in campaigning over the past several months.

Saha concluded by expressing optimism that the electoral outcome would usher in a new phase of governance in West Bengal, marked by peace, development and strengthened democratic institutions.
