Gorakhpur to host four-day Kabaddi tournament from Dec 1 to 4

Lucknow : The sixth edition of the All India Prize money Men’s Kabaddi competition will be held in Gorakhpur from December 1 to 4, in memory of the Late Mahant Avaidyanath Ji Maharaj.

This prestigious event, organized by the Uttar Pradesh Sports Department, will feature 12 top teams from across the country. The winning team will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, while the runner-up will receive Rs 1 lakh, along with a certificate and trophy.

Additionally, two other teams will each be awarded Rs 50,000. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will attend the closing ceremony on December 4 to honor the champions.

The competition will take place at the Regional Stadium in Gorakhpur, and is scheduled to be inaugurated on December 1 by the State’s Sports and Youth Welfare Minister, Girish Chand Yadav. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will present awards to the players on December 4.

The 2024 edition will feature renowned teams from across the country, including representatives from Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Western Command Army Delhi, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Bharat Petroleum Mumbai, SSB New Delhi, Northeast Railway Gorakhpur, Army Red New Delhi, and Army Green New Delhi.

Uttar Pradesh Sports Director, Dr. RP Singh, announced that the competition will feature several international players and will offer a prize of Rs 2 lakh to the winning team, and Rs 1 lakh to the runner-up, along with a certificate and trophy. The two teams finishing third will be awarded Rs 50,000 each. In the 2023-24 edition, the Uttar Pradesh team emerged as the winner, JD Academy New Delhi was the runner-up, and Red Army New Delhi and Haryana team secured third place.

The Uttar Pradesh Sports Department first organized the Late Mahant Avaidyanath Ji Maharaj All India Prize Money Men’s Kabaddi Competition in December 2018, with the second edition following in December 2019. The third edition was held in 2021, the fourth in 2022, and the fifth edition in 2023. The upcoming event marks the sixth edition of this prestigious tournament, continuing to honor the legacy of Mahant Avedyanath Ji Maharaj and further promoting Kabaddi in the state.
