Central govt allocates Rs 2100 crore for Mahakumbh 2025, releases first installment

Lucknow : In a significant move, the Central Government has approved a special grant of Rs 2100 crore for the world’s largest cultural and spiritual gathering, Mahakumbh-2025, set to commence in January in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj district.

As part of this grant, Rs 1050 crore has already been released as the first installment. The allocation comes in response to a special request made by the Uttar Pradesh Government for one-time financial assistance to ensure the safe and successful organization of the grand event.

The Yogi government has allocated Rs 5,435.68 crore for organizing a divine and grand Mahakumbh 2025. This budget is being utilized across 421 projects to ensure a world-class event. So far, Rs 3461.99 crore has been approved for financial implementation.

In addition, Rs 1636 crore is being allocated to 125 projects through departmental budgets from key departments such as the Public Works Department, Housing and Urban Planning, Bridge Corporation, Tourism, Irrigation, and Prayagraj Municipal Corporation.

The projects include infrastructure development like the construction and strengthening of roads, railway overbridges, underpasses, erosion control along riverbanks, interlocking roadways, riverfront development, and beautification of all major intersections under a theme-based plan. Prayagraj is also being developed as a top-tier smart city through the coordination of Smart City projects and the Prayagraj Development Authority. IT-based monitoring systems and clean drinking water facilities are being implemented for pilgrims.

Efforts under the Swachh Bharat Mission and the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation are ensuring advanced sanitation and cleanliness. Solid waste management systems and 100% sewage treatment coverage are also being established.

Innovative projects are a key highlight of Mahakumbh 2025, such as the creation of a Digital Kumbh Museum and the development of a tourism circuit connecting Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Vindhyachal, and Chitrakoot. Comprehensive arrangements are being made to ensure smooth travel, safety, and a spiritual experience for pilgrims and tourists.

The vision for Mahakumbh 2025 is to create a Divine Mahakumbh and a Grand Mahakumbh, while also focusing on cleanliness (Swachh Mahakumbh), safety (Surakshit Mahakumbh), accessibility (Sugam Mahakumbh), digital integration (Digital Mahakumbh), and environmental sustainability (Green Mahakumbh).
