Government Nod for Petroleum Imports at Adani Krishnapatnam Port

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways has granted Adani Krishnapatnam Port Ltd. permission to import petroleum by sea, as announced in a notification on Friday. The decision, made in the public interest, enables the Andhra Pradesh-based port to support the country’s growing energy demands through maritime imports.

Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. acquired Krishnapatnam Port, located in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district, in December of last year. This world-class, all-weather deep-water port operates round the clock and is capable of handling large cape-size vessels. Strategically positioned, it serves South India’s landlocked hinterlands through robust multimodal connectivity.

India’s liquid fuel demand is projected to increase by 300,000 barrels per day in both 2024 and 2025, primarily driven by rising transportation fuel needs. Adani Krishnapatnam Port’s ability to handle petroleum imports is expected to play a crucial role in addressing this growing demand.

Krishnapatnam Port is a major player in India’s maritime trade, managing a significant share of the nation’s cargo traffic. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ) has been implementing advanced cargo handling systems to enhance efficiency and competitiveness. This aligns with Adani’s vision of transforming Krishnapatnam into a global maritime hub, attracting international trade and reinforcing its position as a pivotal logistics node in India.

Through technological advancements and strategic operations, the port is set to contribute significantly to India’s energy and trade sectors while strengthening its global standing.
