Tragic Accident on Jaipur-Ajmer Road: Four Dead, 40 Vehicles Burnt

Jaipur: A devastating accident followed by a massive fire on the Jaipur-Ajmer road in the Bankrota area of Jaipur has left four people dead and many others injured. The incident occurred early this morning when a series of collisions involving multiple vehicles led to a fire near a petrol pump. Approximately 40 vehicles, including trucks and trolleys, were engulfed in flames, with several reduced to ashes.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Kumar, speaking to ANI, confirmed the scale of the tragedy. “A horrific accident and subsequent fire broke out in the Bankrota area of Jaipur on the main Ajmer road. Around two dozen vehicles caught fire, and several trucks and trolleys were completely burnt. The accident occurred near a petrol pump, likely triggered by the collision of several vehicles in quick succession,” he said.

The initial cause of the accident is suspected to involve a gas tanker, which may have intensified the fire. Emergency services, including the police, civil defense, and fire brigade, have been working tirelessly to contain the blaze and assist the victims. “We are investigating the details, but so far, four people have lost their lives, and numerous vehicles have been destroyed. Efforts are ongoing to extinguish the fire and prevent further damage,” Kumar added.

Eyewitnesses described the chaos and destruction at the scene. Petrol pump employee Moti Singh recounted, “The accident happened around 5 a.m. while I was doing accounting work. Suddenly, I noticed flames engulfing the trucks parked nearby. A nearby petrol pump also caught fire. We used cylinders to control the flames and managed to prevent the fire from spreading further.”

Singh also noted the rapid spread of the fire, emphasizing how critical timely intervention was in controlling the situation. “The flames spread as far as we could see, but with coordinated efforts, we managed to bring it under control at the site,” he said.

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed his concern over the incident in a post on social media platform X, stating, “The fire incident involving a petrol pump and a chemical tanker on the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway is deeply distressing. Many have been injured, and the loss of life is heartbreaking. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and extend my condolences to the bereaved families.”

The tragic incident has raised questions about safety protocols on national highways and the handling of hazardous materials near populated areas. Authorities are now focused on clearing the wreckage and conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the disaster.

As rescue operations continue, the priority remains ensuring the safety of those in the vicinity and providing medical care to the injured. This accident serves as a grim reminder of the potential dangers posed by vehicular collisions and the need for stringent safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
