Delhi Govt Awards ₹3.35 Crore to 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Heroes

The Delhi Government, led by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), honored the achievements of athletes who excelled at the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics. Chief Minister Atishi distributed cash awards totaling ₹3.35 crore to five athletes and a coach. Sharad Kumar received ₹2 crore, Aman ₹1 crore, while ₹10 lakh each was given to Sharad Kumar’s coach Sajal Kumar Rai, Tulika Maan, and Vikas Singh. Amoj Jacob was awarded ₹5 lakh.

During the ceremony, students from the Delhi Sports School engaged with the athletes, gaining inspiration and insights into excelling in sports. CM Atishi emphasized the government’s decade-long commitment to nurturing athletic talent and highlighted the emotional pride that athletes’ achievements bring to the nation. She also shed light on the challenges Indian athletes face due to limited support.

Atishi lauded initiatives like the Delhi Sports School and the Play and Progress scheme, which has supported over 1,400 athletes since 2018. Additionally, the Mission Excellence program has provided financial aid to 394 athletes. She underlined the government’s strides in improving sports infrastructure, including the inauguration of an astroturf field to enhance hockey performance.

Expressing hope for the future, Atishi concluded by envisioning a significant contribution from Delhi Sports School students to India’s medal tally in upcoming Olympics. This recognition reflects the Delhi government’s steadfast dedication to empowering athletes and advancing the nation’s sporting excellence.
