Hockey competitions have been organized in the grand international astroturf hockey stadium built at a cost of about Rs 22 crore. This huge stadium built in an area of about nine and a half acres is dedicated to hockey players. The district is known as the nursery of hockey. The hockey players here have been exhibiting their best sports talent. Digvijay Stadium, spread over an area of more than 20 acres in the middle of the city, has a cricket ground and an international basketball court. Out of 8 basketball courts in the country, one is only in Rajnandgaon city. There are 3 indoor badminton courts, 3 table tennis, weightlifting training center, athletics 400 meter track, multipurpose gym, hostel for hockey and basketball of Sports Authority of India SAI.


Muktibodh Museum is worth visiting for the students of Hindi literature to understand the literature, works, thoughts and life of the three great litterateurs of the country, Shri Gajanan Madhav Muktibodh, Dr. Padumlal Punnalal Bakshi, Dr. Baldev Prasad Mishra. The works, manuscripts and objects of the three great litterateurs of the country, Shri Gajanan Madhav Muktibodh Room, Dr. Padumlal Punnalal Bakshi, Dr. Baldev Prasad Mishra are kept safe. Their works are collected here. Excerpts from their diaries and information about the inspiring events of their lives are recorded here. Researchers and students from other districts and various places want to see and understand the objects and works related to their memories in the museum. This city in Rajnandgaon, which cherishes their unforgettable memories, is a proud place of the work place of the trio for Hindi literature lovers. The district is specially known for its renowned litterateurs, artists, social workers and intellectuals like freedom fighter Thakur Pyare Lal Singh of Rajnandgaon district, Shri Kunj Bihari Choubey, prominent Nacha and theatre artist Padma Shri Govindram Nirmalkar, Fidabai Markam, famous singing and acting artist Shri Bhaiyyalal Hedau, Chandaini Gonda artist Shri Khuman Sahu, film director Shri Kishore Sahu, folk artist Shri Barsaati Bhaiya, famous singer Mrs. Kavita Vasnik, poet and novelist Shri Vinod Kumar Shukla, Padma Shri Phoolbasan Bai.

Rajnandgaon city is a city of ponds. From the point of view of water conservation, there are more than 32 ponds in the city including Ranisagar, Budhasagar, Motipur pond, Mathpara pond, Shankarpur pond. The city’s Chowpatty is famous. Where Laxman Jhula, toy train, boating, swings for children to play and beautiful gardens are the center of attraction. On the other side of the garden is Pushp Vatika. Urja Park is a beautiful garden. Having gardens at various places in the city gives a feeling of greenery. The district administration and the Municipal Corporation planted trees at various places in the city. A garden has been developed under the flyover and the other part of the flyover is being used for parking in a systematic manner. Small shops are also being set up there. The construction of a flyover on National Highway No. 53 passing through the middle of the city has reduced the traffic pressure on the city, the city has become organized and the convenience of transportation has increased. Princely states have had their own importance in Indian history. There were 14 princely states in Chhattisgarh, one of them was Rajnandgaon. During the princely period, Rajnandgaon developed as a state and was ruled by Somvanshi, Kalchuri and Marathas. Earlier it was known as Nandgram. Bairagi kings ruled here. The prominent rulers of the princely state were Mahant Ghasidas, Mahant Balram Das, Mahant Sarveshwar Das and the last ruler Mahant Digvijay Das. During the reign of these rulers, this princely state has made a significant contribution in the field of employment, education and literature. During the time of Mahant Balram Das, Raipur Water Works Raipur, Rani Jodhpur Water Works 1842, Balram Press 1899, establishment of BNC Mills, establishment of Nagar Palika, construction of schools are among the important works. Rajnandgaon district has played an important role in the national movement for the independence of the country. Historically, the ancient temples of the city such as Sheetla Temple, Noni Bai Temple, Jagannath Temple, Balbhadra Temple, princely era heritage, are a rich historical heritage here. Patal Bhairavi Temple is famous as Barfani Dham. The grand Gurudwara, Ram Darbar, Rath Temple are religious tourist places. Local Hareli, Pola, Cherchera, Teej, Deepawali, Holi and all other folk festivals are celebrated in accordance with Chhattisgarhi culture. Local dishes like Cheela, Fara, Dehrauri, Thethri, Khurmi, Papchi, Aairsa are popular in the food culture.
