Health facilities are continuously expanding due to the efforts of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai

Health facilities are continuously expanding in Chhattisgarh due to the efforts of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai. On the instructions of Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, basic facilities in the state government hospitals are increasing day by day. As a result, people’s trust in Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Smriti Chikitsalaya, affiliated to Pandit Nehru Medical College, is increasing day by day in the field of health facilities. Due to the dedicated team of doctors and paramedical staff of various departments of this institute, doctors have been successful in the most complex medical cases. This is the reason that patients not only from the state but also from neighboring states are reaching here for treatment.

In this regard, recently, a team of doctors from the Heart Surgery Department of Ambedkar Hospital has once again performed a successful open heart surgery on a patient from Madhya Pradesh. This case of heart surgery is special because the patient’s heart was functioning only at 35 percent. The patient had a disease called rheumatic heart disease due to which two valves of the patient, aortic valve and mitral valve respectively, had shrinkage and the third valve, tricuspid valve, had leakage. In this operation conducted under the leadership of Department Head of Heart Surgery Dr. Krishnakant Sahu, both these valves of the patient’s heart were replaced with titanium metal valves and the third valve was repaired. After the surgery, the patient’s health is continuously improving and the patient will be discharged from the hospital after a day or two. This operation has been done completely free of cost under the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Ayushman Yojana.

Medical Superintendent of Ambedkar Hospital Dr. Santosh Sonkar says that with the resources available in the hospital, our effort is to ensure that patients get the benefit of better treatment facilities. Patients from neighboring states like Madhya Pradesh are also being treated here under the Ayushman Yojana. Such expansion of health facilities has maintained people’s trust in Ambedkar Hospital.

A 52-year-old patient from Anuppur in Madhya Pradesh was having trouble breathing for four years. He was short of breath even with the slightest work. Initially, the local doctors treated him as if he had asthma. Later, when he was examined by other doctors, it was found that three out of the four valves of the patient’s heart were damaged. Since replacing three valves is a very challenging operation, the patient’s well-wishers advised him to go to Ambedkar Hospital. Still, the patient went to a well-known heart center in Madhya Pradesh, but he did not believe it. Then, in another center, the cost was told to be more than Rs 5 lakh, so finally the patient reached Ambedkar Hospital.

In the Heart Surgery Department of Ambedkar Hospital, the patient was re-examined by the Head of the Department, Dr. Krishnakant Sahu and told him about the operation of all three valves of the heart. Since the kidney of this patient was also weak and his creatinine was also increased by 1.5 mg, he was told about the operation being more risky and many times the kidney of such patients gets damaged after bypass and dialysis may be required. Still the patient agreed to get his operation done in the Heart Surgery Department of Ambedkar Hospital.

The patient’s disease is called rheumatic heart disease. This disease occurs when cold and cough are not treated properly in childhood. In this disease, throat infection occurs in childhood due to a bacteria called Streptococcus which occurs in the form of common cold and cough. When this bacteria enters our body, our body’s immune system produces antibodies against this bacteria, but instead of killing the bacteria, this antibody starts damaging our heart valves considering them to be bacteria. Or you can say that this antibody is like a misguided missile. This disease is found the most in North and Central India and the least in South India.

In medical terms, the patient was suffering from a disease called Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) with Severe Mitral Stenosis with Severe Aortic Stenosis plus Tricuspid Valve Regurgitation. The patient underwent a surgery called Mitral Valve Replacement with Aortic Valve Replacement Bi, Bi Leaflet Metallic Valve with DiVegas Tricuspid Valve Repair.

The patient started eating his breakfast and meals on the second day of the operation. Earlier also, successful operations of patients from other states have been done in this institute. Even before this, a patient from Haryana got his surgery done in the Heart, Chest and Vascular Surgery Department of Ambedkar Hospital instead of getting operated in Delhi.

The team that did the surgery of this patient included the Head of Department of Heart Surgery Dr. Krishnakant Sahu along with Cardiac Anaesthetist Dr. Sankalp, Critical Care Specialist Dr. Shruti Turkar, Perfusionists Rahul and Digeshwar, OT Technicians Bhupendra, Harish, Niraakar and Nursing Staff Rajendra, Narendra, Chova and Dushyant etc.
