Police, NSG (National Security Guard), ATS (Anti-Terrorism Squad), NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), and other paramilitary forces are conducting regular mock drills to strengthen security measures.
On Saturday, a joint mock drill was conducted at the Boat Club in Prayagraj by the NSG, UP ATS, NDRF, and Water Police. The drill simulated a terrorist attack scenario involving a “dirty bomb” threat and hostage rescue. NSG teams initiated the operation from two directions, while SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) teams approached the target via waterways and roads. They demonstrated the neutralization of CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) threats and ensured the safe release of hostages.

NSG Showcases Advanced Security Capabilities
During the drill, NSG commandos demonstrated their expertise in rescuing hostages held by terrorists, saving people from bomb blasts, and defusing a live bomb. Five NSG units will be deployed at Mahakumbh. These teams are fully equipped to handle threats from dirty bombs, fidayeen (suicide) attacks, and CBRN hazards.
Key Weapons Used by NSG Commandos:
- MP5
- AK-47
- Corner Shot Gun
- Glock 17

NDRF Prepares for Chemical Attack Scenarios
To counter potential chemical attacks at the Mahakumbh, NDRF teams also conducted mock drills. The drills tested their readiness to respond swiftly to emergencies. NDRF teams showcased their capabilities in mitigating the impact of chemical threats and performing effective relief operations.
For enhanced security, the Indian Air Force’s MI-7 helicopters have been deployed. These helicopters will play a critical role in surveillance, emergency response, and rescue operations during the Mahakumbh.
