Akharas perform grand Amrit Snan on Makar Sankranti at Mahakumbh

Mahakumbhnagar : On Tuesday, during the Mahakumbh, the grand festival of the Sanatan faith in Teerthraj Prayagraj, the Amrit Snan on Makar Sankranti was completed with great reverence. According to mythological beliefs, the Makar Sankranti snan in Mahakumbh is considered an Amrit Snan. On this auspicious day, marking the Sun’s transition into Capricorn, the Akharas of sadhus and sanyasis performed the Amrit Snan after a grand ‘Shobha Yatra,’ following full rituals and traditions.

Devotees, deeply rooted in Sanatan traditions, lined up to witness the Amrit Snan of the Akharas and seek blessings from the Naga and Bairagi sadhus and saints. The Naga sadhus, adorned with garlands and wielding spears, arrows, swords, and trishuls, took the Amrit Snan at the Sangam during the sacred ‘Brahmamuhurta.’

The sight of the ancient Sanatan tradition of Amrit Snan being brought to life in the Mahakumbh filled the hearts of the people with awe. The Dharma Rakshak (protectors of faith) Naga Sadhus, who live in the caves, maths, and temples of the Himalayas, descended beautifully adorned to take a sacred dip, playing in the holy waters of Maa Ganga.

As per tradition, preparations for the Amrit Snan began in the Akharas at midnight. With grandeur and adherence to their age-old customs and hierarchies, the Akharas made their way to the Sangam, showcasing the eternal and divine essence of the Sanatan faith.

The Amrit Snan commenced with the sacred bath of Mahanirvani Akhara. Following the pre-planned schedule, the Naga Sadhus of Niranjani Akhara, Panchdashnam Juna Akhara, Aawahan Akhara, and Panch Agni Akhara took their turn for the holy dip.

It was followed by the Amrit Snan of Bairagi Akharas of Shri Panch Nirmohi, Panch Digambar Ani, and Shri Panch Nirvani Ani. The final order of the holy bath included the sadhus and sanyasis from Udasin Akhara and Nirmal Akhara.

On the first day of the Amrit Snan in Mahakumbh, the sadhus and saints of all the Akharas led the procession, proudly carrying the religious flags of their respective orders. Following them, the Naga Sanyasis, chanting the praises of their Ishta Dev, carried idols of their deities while playing drums and nagadas as they proceeded toward the Triveni Sangam.

The Naga Sanyasis blessed the common people with rare darshans and displayed their arms and weapons as they proceeded. Following them, the elaborately decorated chariots of the Acharyas, Mandaleshwars, Mahamandaleshwars, and Acharya Mahamandaleshwars moved in sequence. Devotees and followers of these spiritual leaders walked alongside, hailing their Gurus with devotion.

The Naga Sanyasis, guided by their Acharyas, made their way from the holding area to take the Amrit Snan in the sacred waters of Maa Ganga with unmatched zeal and enthusiasm. Alongside them, crores of devotees of Sanatan Dharma also participated in the Amrit Snan, affirming their faith and devotion.
