Republic Day 2025 Celebrated in Lunglei with 76th Anniversary Observance

Lunglei : Today, on the occasion of India’s 76th Republic Day, the celebration took place at the C. Ṭhuamluaia Memorial Ground in Lunglei. Lunglei District Deputy Commissioner (Administration) Pi Navneet Mann, IAS, was present at the event.

During the ceremony, government funds were allocated to various important public welfare and developmental projects in India. At 7:30 AM, the Republic Day parade began at C. Ṭhuamluaia Memorial Ground, where a contingent of 26 different groups marched, and the Republic Day message was delivered.

Pi Navneet Mann highlighted that women are leading in every field today. Their contribution to the nation’s progress is significant. The state government prioritizes women’s empowerment. She also mentioned that over the past year, she had met many entrepreneurs and emphasized providing part-time jobs based on women’s skills. The Tata Group responded positively, offering job opportunities for women, helping them become financially independent, and playing a part in running their households.

Support to Women’s Self-Help Groups

During the event, Pi Navneet Mann visited various stalls set up by women’s self-help groups. She purchased various products from these stalls as encouragement. As a token of support to the self-help groups, she presented a cash prize of ₹75,000 to the District Commissioner, Pi Navneet Mann. A total of 75 stalls were present at the event, and the amount of ₹75,000 will be used to purchase various items that will be donated to children’s homes, according to District Commissioner, Pi Tṛptī Dhomise.

The “Mini Saras 2025” exhibition and sale were held from January 23 to 27 as part of the collaboration between the central and state governments’ rural development and Panchayat Raj departments. The exhibition aimed to provide a market for the goods produced by women’s self-help groups. The event had 54 stalls for handicraft products and 21 stalls for food items.

Developmental Projects and Progress

Pi Navneet Mann further emphasized that various government departments have contributed to the region’s progress in 2024-2025. Among the developmental projects are the completion of the Lungsen Primary Health Centre, Civil Hospital, Lunglei Laboratory Building, and the installation of a 33kV Sub-Station. Additionally, the Lunglei Solid Waste Management Centre Phase-I is 95% complete, and Phase-II is underway.

The government has also launched various programs under MGNREGA, providing job cards for 32,919 individuals in Lunglei District. There has been a significant increase in housing under the PMAY and Awas Plus Schemes, with 4,560 houses planned for 2024. Other projects under UN-funded Green Agriculture and State Disaster Response Funds have also contributed to community welfare.

District Achievements

Pi Navneet Mann also spoke about Lunglei District’s success in various national schemes, including the Aspirational Block Programme, and the NAAC B+ grade received by Lunglei Government College. Furthermore, she highlighted progress in agriculture, tourism, and educational programs, ensuring that the district remains on track to achieve its development goals.

Ceremonial Parade and Awards

The ceremonial parade included contingents from various sectors, such as armed forces, unarmed groups, schools, and pipe bands. A total of 13 groups participated, with awards given to the best performances in categories such as NCC, Scouts & Guides, and various schools.

The Republic Day celebration also featured several competitions, including draughts, shooting, and tennis, with winners from various categories receiving recognition.

Lunglei’s Republic Day Celebration – A Collective Effort

Pi Navneet Mann concluded the ceremony by acknowledging the hard work and efforts of the entire Lunglei District community, including government officials, NGOs, religious groups, political parties, and citizens. The “VIP’s At Home” program also took place, which focused on the well-being of the district’s leaders and officials.

Community Welfare and Support for Vulnerable Groups

During the Republic Day celebration, the District Administration extended support to various welfare institutions such as Bethel Centre, Baptist Church Orphanage, Kawlkhuma Boys Home, and others, contributing ₹35,000 for their maintenance.
