Momentum Builds for the Construction of Krantiveer Chapekar Memorial in Pimpri-Chinchwad; DCM Eknath Shinde Approves ₹41 Crore Funding

Mumbai – Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has granted administrative approval for a ₹41 crore fund for the construction of the Krantiveer Chapekar Memorial in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The demand for this memorial has been ongoing since 1997. With the approval from the Deputy Chief Minister, the construction of the Krantiveer Chapekar Memorial is now set to accelerate.

The first request to build the memorial at Chapekar Wada was made by Dattaji Salvi, Chairman of the Freedom Fighters’ High-Level Committee, to the then Chief Minister.

Accordingly, in September 1997, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation approved a resolution, and the first phase of the memorial, costing ₹29 lakh, was completed. The second phase, worth ₹44 lakh, was completed in 2002.

As Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde had, in July 2023, instructed the government to allocate ₹41 crore for the construction of the memorial, following a request from local MP Mr. Barne. Former Deputy Chief Minister and current Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also gave directions regarding this project.

Now, Deputy Chief Minister Shinde has granted administrative approval for a ₹41 crore fund and sanctioned a ₹68 crore plan for the completion of the Chapekar Memorial.

The project includes architectural work, a museum, historical bronze sculptures, and audio-visual installations.
