Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin Inspects Chennai Water Project, Approves New ₹59.15 Crore Project in Ninthipuram

Chennai : Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Shri M.K. Stalin, along with other officials, inspected five ongoing projects under the Chennai Water Project, valued at ₹474.69 crores, and approved a new project worth ₹59.15 crores in the Ninthipuram area.

As part of the Chennai Development Scheme, the CM reviewed progress on the construction of 776 new houses across Solathur Oil Mill, Ninthipuram Vilayottu Madhonam, Ganeshpuram Namamolam, Stoney Maruthumalam, and Thandayyorkapadla Kabarundhu Nilayam.

Chennai Development Scheme Progress

In the 2023-24 budget, the Tamil Nadu government announced the “Edasehnla Nauchchithi Yojana”, a ₹1,000 crore initiative aimed at improving education, housing, infrastructure, and public services over three years. This initiative includes:

  • New school buildings in Motihari
  • Housing projects in new settlements
  • Two petrol pumps and workstation upgrades
  • Installation of electricity in key areas
  • Rehabilitation of the fire brigade
  • CCTV surveillance
  • Healthcare facilities for women and children
  • Roads, bridges, water supply, sewage treatment, and waste management

The scheme encompasses 252 projects totaling ₹6,309 crores, with 29 projects completed, 166 under construction, and the rest set to begin soon. The government aims to complete all projects by the end of the year.

New Project in Ninthipuram

As part of the Deshneya Swamy Project, the CM inspected ongoing works and initiated a new ₹59.15 crore drinking water project in Ninthipuram. This project will supply piped water to 3,500 households, benefiting around 80,000 residents.

Additionally, a ₹12.69 crore multipurpose facility has been constructed on 3.75 acres in Ninthipuram, featuring:

  • Volleyball and boxing gyms
  • Two volleyball practice halls
  • Badminton and kickboxing gyms
  • Children’s play area
  • Swimming pool and fitness center
  • Parking and sanitation facilities

Other Key Developments

  1. Solathur Oil Refinery Project
    • Built on 3.93 acres in Sekthi Colony
    • Investment: ₹53.50 crores
    • Includes restaurants, parking space, and quality control units
  2. Kannepuram Metro Line
    • 678 meters long, 15.2 meters wide
    • Near Viyerodi Jio Railway Station
    • ₹226.55 crores investment
  3. Stoneleigh Medical Complex Housing Project
    • 776 apartments over 3,26,612 sq. ft.
    • ₹160 crores investment
    • Includes 853 parking spaces, 8 elevators, 20 water tanks, solar heaters
  4. Thandayyorkapadla Bus Station
    • Built on 1.86 acres
    • ₹21.95 crores investment
    • Includes 157 two-wheeler and 23 four-wheeler parking spaces, ATM, passenger waiting areas

Government Oversight

During the review, the CM emphasized timely completion and directed officials to ensure high-quality implementation. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including:

  • Tamil Nadu Water Supply & Sewerage Authority Executive Director S. Ray, IAS
